Over the Top!

Wind River's fall was "Over the Top" with
  • a road trip to Washington DC to celebrate the retirement of a retreat alum from the US Navy after 20 years of service (way to go Commander Ronda Hartzel)
  • three Wind River Cancer Wellness Retreats including our first Colon Survivor & Caregiver Retreat, and
  • survivor meet ups and wellness workshops galore!
But now we want to INVITE YOU (Alumni, Survivors, Caregivers, Supporters, Heath Care Professionals, Friends) to one last musical bash at The Double Door Inn in Charlotte.   This famous blues club is closing its doors the end of this year so on Sunday November 13th, immediately following a (victorious) Panther's football game, join us for great music with your Wind River friends!

And WOW!  Your responses to our survey last month were inspiring (and humbling).  Check out the input below -- several which we have already implemented with our recent fall meet-ups.

And a special thank you to our wonderful sponsors and donors who've been busy this fall including Gabrielle's Wind River Fundraiser (she ran three 1/2 marathon's back to back in October), the awesome 2nd Annual Breast Fest at Haylo Healing Arts Lounge (in Plaza Midwood), AND the wonderful support from the cyclists at 24 Hours of Booty who just yesterday renewed their 2016/2017 support for Wind River!

Hope to see y'all on the 13th at the Double Door!!

We are super proud of our friend and Wind River Family member Ronda Hartzel on her recent retirement as a Commander in the US Navy!

Not only did Ronda make it to full retirement in the military, she did it with stage IV breast cancer (not an easy thing to do in today's military).  Ronda was diagnosed with cancer seven years ago at the age of 36, and while she continues regular treatments, she is NED -- No Evidence of Disease.

Four of us drove to Washington to be there for the ceremony and couldn't be happier for her.  It is a tribute to her positive attitude and tenaciousness that she was able to achieve this huge milestone.

Permission granted to come ashore Commander Hartzel!

And the Survey Says ...

Great feedback everyone to our survey last month!  Here is what we heard loud and clear:
  • You want more opportunities to meet up with Wind River. Top choices included attending a sporting event or music concert (55%), grabbing lunch or dinner (57%), and the #1 request (drum roll please) meet-up at a brew pub or winery (60%).
  • It was just about unanimous that everyone would like to participate in our Walk/Run Fundraiser in May (48% Yes; 44% Maybe) with a preferred Walk date of May 20, 2017.
  • Many of you indicated that you would like to see us offer more programs. The top choices were Healthy Cooking classes (61%), Long Term Survivor programs (59%), Workout/Exercise/Yoga classes (57%).

2nd Annual

Breast Fest was Rockin!!!

2nd Annual Breast Fest was a HUGE success! Our dear friends at Haylo Healing Arts Lounge raised over $1,500 for Wind River at their 2nd Annual Breast Fest, held October 22. The event featured yoga, music, special guest speakers, a raffle, and most importantly – lots of LOVE!

Thanks again to the great people at Haylo Healing Arts Lounge and to our amazing friends and supporters for coming out.  Special thank you to Hillary Heath for her hard work in pulling it together
