Dear Lakeshore PAWS pals,

We hope everyone is hanging in there! This newsletter is dedicated to our outstanding staff who have gracefully maneuvered around the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Since the Governor of Indiana deemed animal rescues an essential business, it has been a balancing act here at Lakeshore PAWS. The staff has done an amazing job at continuing to save dogs while keeping everyone safe and I am beyond thrilled to announce that we have surpassed 5,000 adoptions since we opened our doors in April of 2011!

We have changed our procedures since COVID-19 and we are working on getting our application online. We will update you as soon as it is available. In the meantime, email info@lakeshorepaws.org for the application and to set up a meet and greet appointment. We currently have a lot of great dogs in all sizes, breeds and ages. Check out our website or our Facebook page for a current list of dogs that are looking for homes.

It is with great disappointment that we are cancelling our biggest fundraiser of the year, the Pup Crawl. It wasn’t an easy decision but we know it was the right thing to do to ensure everyone's safety. We are looking at other online fundraisers and contests that we can get involved in to fill the void. We will miss seeing all of you and all of our past alums that come every year and hope to have it next year on June 19, 2021.

We appreciate all of your continued support and hope that we can all be together again soon! Until then, please continue to share our Facebook posts and donate if you are able. Stay safe!

Gratefully Yours,
Jeanne Sommer
co-founder and executive director

Volunteer of the Month,
Courtney Johnson

Courtney is a huge asset to Lakeshore PAWS. Staff and fellow volunteers know they can count on her to help out around the shelter and take dogs to and from the vet. She is also an amazing foster! Whether it’s a few puppies, a dog that needs a break from the shelter or a dog that needs a little extra work, Courtney is always up for the challenge.

Courtney comes in weekly to help take pictures of the dogs and give them extra play time. Between maintaining her school work at Valparaiso University, playing on the VU soccer team , helping other families by dog walking and dog sitting, AND coming to Lakeshore PAWS, she is a wonderful person and an awesome animal ally. We are so grateful for Courtney!
Dog of the Month,
Lilac

Hi everyone! My name is Lilac and I'm the prettiest two-year-old Pit Mix in Northwest Indiana. At least that's what the staff tells me! I'm a high energy girl looking for an active home. I play well with other dogs, but in my home I prefer to be the only dog. I'd prefer that kids in the home are 12+ because I am energetic and I don't want to accidentally knock them down.

The staff can't get over my eyes...they're gold, just like my heart! They also think it's extra cute how my tail curls! I love being outside and I'd love to go on hikes and other adventures with my new family. Anything to spend time with you. The world is crazy right now, but one thing is for sure, I have unconditional love to give a family.
