May E-Blast!

Registration is now open through Eventbrite(which includes a tiny admin fee) for our new conference:  Infancy Matters:  Securing Lifelong Pathways for Well-Being and Resilience.  Please note the early bird and group rates of $175 and any student wishing to attend may first email us at attachmentnetwork@shaw.ca with proof of full time post secondary attendance and receive a rate of $100. Caring for a complicated or difficult baby presents many challenges to parents and families. This workshop will help those of you who provide assistance to those who might be struggling to care for a baby who cries excessively, is difficult to soothe or has difficulties with sleeping or feeding.   Many parents feel this way and don’t know what to do.  Difficult experiences early on can leave caregivers feeling confused about their natural capacity to care for their child and can shape the trajectory of the parent-child relationship. Since the early months and years form the building blocks for attachments and relational expectations, regulatory capacity, learning, and problem solving, support during this early time of development is crucial for healthy development.  This workshop will help you gain tools by recognizing challenges early on and learning how to engage caregivers in relational and supportive approaches to reduce stress and increase positive and meaningful caregiving experiences.

Our Attachment 101 has had a number of inquiries, mainly around pricing.  We are open to sliding scale, but the suggested price is $150 for the first 25 people in attendance, $200 for up to 50 people, and $250 for over 50 people.  Your group can choose to charge people to attend or pay on their behalf.  The money is payable to the Attachment Network of Manitoba.  Again, this is an opportunity to INTRODUCE attachment to parents primarily.

Our Annual General Meeting will be Thursday, May 12 from 1:30-4pm at Adoption Options, 1313 Portage Ave, (please use the back door) and open to anyone who wishes to attend.  Cathy Seitz and her team from Villa Rosa will be presenting on the fine work they do there.  Aside from voting for the Board, we have a new nominee, Kathleen McDonald, to consider, and some by law changes.  Specifically, the by law being changed would then read:  The board of directors will act as a nominating committee and will accept all applications for the board prior to the April board meeting and propose any successful candidates based on majority vote to the membership no later than 7 days prior to the AGM.” And will strike: “The board of directors will act as a nomination committee and will accept all application no later than April 15 annually” and “secret ballots” (keep in show of hands).

Lastly, 2017 marks our 15th year as a Network and we are interested in striking a committee to look at producing a conference to not only keep advancing our knowledge in attachment but also highlight the marvelous and innovative work being done closer to home.  If you are interested in contributing to this please contact us at attachmentnetwork@shaw.ca.
