November E-Blast

Fall E Blast
We want to let you know about some exciting things that are occurring with The Attachment Network of Manitoba.  In this issue, we will discuss upcoming training for Connect in March, a teaser about our 15th Anniversary Conference this fall, and our new posters based on our “10 Things” brochures.
Connect Training
Connect is an attachment focused group for caregivers of older children and teens (8+) which can be delivered for foster parents or biological parents.  Teens feel more complicated, we’ve often gotten into habits of interacting with teens, and the stakes are high in their world.  This is a 9 week group that takes participants into understanding principles involved in caregiving, thinking of how to be a secure base and a safe haven, and helps facilitate this learning by reflecting on role plays the facilitators do.  The training is 3 days, and we will be offering it March 13, 14, 15 at RA Steen Centre in Winnipeg.  Click on the flyer to find out more information and to register.  You may register directly with Marti Piller, training coordinator, and save the Eventbrite fee, or use your credit card/paypal and be receipted.  Please note there is an opportunity for people to only attend day 1 for a reduced fee.  That would be advisable if you are going to be supporting or supervising a trainee, or are scoping the training out to take later.  Dr. Marlene Moretti of Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, who developed Connect, will be facilitating the training alongside colleague, Dr. Jody Carrington of Alberta. This is a heavily researched, culturally safe model that shows tremendous promise as well as encouraging data that participants are still utilizing the principles even 2 years after taking a group.  The training for the 3 days is $650 and mandatory subsequent supervision is $1250.  Each group must be run by 2 trained facilitators.

We are pleased to announce the launch of the Making Sense of Trauma: Practical Tools for Responding to Children and Youth  Webinar!

www.makingsenseoftrauma.ca

The Webinar is based on the Making Sense of Trauma: Practical Tools for Responding to Children and Youth workshop that has been delivered 45 times to over 1,900 people working with children and youth. It was out of a desire to make the information even more accessible that the Webinar was created.

Just like a workshop, this Webinar provides an understanding of how and why children respond to trauma the way that they do and why we often see particular patterns of behaviour. In the Webinar you will learn how to use a trauma-informed perspective to better understand the relational, neurobiological and developmental impact of trauma on children, youth and their caregivers.

The Webinar is structured into 12 Lessons with quiz questions after every slide that once completed enable you to print a certificate of completion.

There is also a written Guide to the Webinar which you can download that includes the script for the Webinar and additional information.

The Webinar provides tools and ideas of ways to intervene to help anyone working with children and youth.  This includes written resources which can be printed, saved or distributed

Fall 15th Anniversary Conference
It seems to be the Year of the Teen, but as our Network is in its teenage years, and since we’ve not showcased much about attachment in upper years, we decided to produce a conference on Attachment and Teens and Mental Health.  We hope to finalize dates very soon.
Posters
Our website, www.attachmentnetwork.ca now has our 4 posters for sale.  These are 24 long x 18 wide, full colour.  We thought these would be typically displayed in hallways at doctor’s offices, schools, child care centres, agencies, and other places families gather.  To ship these by mail, they need to go into a poster tube and there are costs associated with that.  You can now purchase one for $25, plus each additional poster is an additional $2.50, OR you can purchase all 4 for $30.  If you wish to pick them up from us directly, the fee is greatly reduced as there would be no shipping costs, and we have them available for $7 each or 4 for $15.  Contact us at attachmentnetwork@shaw.ca to arrange a pick up.  Our brochures remain available for free download or purchase.  Again, if you need a large bulk order, contact us for a price point that will fit.
Next Meeting
Join us at Adoption Options, 1313 Portage Ave, (back door) at 11:30-1:30 Tuesday, Feb 4, 2017 for our next Network meeting.
