Extremely Limited

"Outstanding" Burghound Bellene

We have been trying to get these wines to the line for months now and a combination of an insatiable demand for Burgundy coupled with the fact that the appellation is not that big, then the ongoing shipping issues especially out of Europe has seen delay after delay. Our hope was to present these two wines individually but having finally landed, there is that little of each we may as well do them as one and move on. How anti-climatic. Despite our miniscule allocation, what remains exciting is the quality price ratio for these excellent red and white Burgs.

So what do we know about Domaine de Bellene? The old vine Rouge emanates from Pommard, the vineyards were planted in 1928 and the plot was bought by the Potel's in 1978. This plot has been farmed organically since 1992. Fruit for the Blanc comes from close planted vineyards in Nuits-St-Georges and Saint Romain and the winery is located in an historic building in the centre of Beaune.

The Rouge (Pinot Noir) elicits 91 Points from Wine Align, the review coming from respected Master Sommelier John Szabo. Perhaps more relevant for Pinotphiles is that this release achieved an "Outstanding" rating from Allen Meadows in Burghound which is almost unheard of for the price. The Blanc (Chardonnay) has also scaled heights not expected for the price with 94 Points from Master of Wine, Tim Atkin. Apologies for the broken record but both wines are extremely limited, first in etc...

Domaine de Bellene
Maison Dieu Vieilles Vignes Bourgogne 2019 @ $39.99

"Outstanding" ♥ Burghound; April 2021. "From a high density old vine parcel (70 years old), this is fine Bourgogne rouge, with exceptional depth and length in the category. It's showing plenty of ripe, sappy and sapid red fruit with a dark and spicy twist, and fine-grained, gritty tannins. Really an exceptional, structured wine in the price category. Best 2022-2026 or so". Rating: 91 Points; John Szabo, MS; Wine Align

Domaine de Bellene
Coteaux Bourguignons L'Eclos des Abeille 2018 @ $39.99

Released for the first time in 2018, this is a very ambitious white Burgundy from young, densely planted vineyards in Nuits-St-Georges and Saint Romain. Made without any added sulphur, it's the latest in a series of brilliant generic whites from Nicolas Potel, with chiselled, breezy flavours and a saline bite. Rating: 94 Points; Tim Atkin MW; Decanter
