This is the first of our monthly newsletters that will be used to keep you updated on Beacon Hill and the 10th Norfolk District.
Dear <<First Name>>,

Happy New Year!

On Wednesday, January 2, 2013, I will officially begin my term as the next State Representative for the 10th Norfolk District. Let me begin by thanking you for the opportunity to represent Franklin and Medway in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.

Early in 2012, we got involved together with a simple idea about securing the type of government we want and how we as citizens would come together to make Massachusetts a great place to work and live. On Wednesday, we put those ideals in play and begin our work to provide opportunities to help people succeed. I will continue to rely on your input and support to make this session a success.

As reported in the Milford Daily News on Thursday, December 27, 2012, I am also looking forward to completing my term on the Franklin Town Council and honoring my commitment to the voters and community. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve and finish that job.

To keep you informed about what is happening on Beacon Hill and in the 10th Norfolk District., we will publish a monthly newsletter. If you have information you would like to see included, please email me at And if you know someone who you think should be on our mailing list, please forward this email to them. There is sign-up information at the bottom of the page.

Again, thank you for the opportunity and I look forward to working with you.

Swearing in

The members of the 188th General Court will be sworn in on January 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. If you would like to join me, I would be honored to have you in attendance at the State House.

The ceremony will take place in House of Representatives Chamber. Please note that seating is very limited and will be available on a first-come, first served basis. There will be closed circuit TV coverage outside the Chamber.

You may also watch the ceremony live online at

Health Care Forum

I had the opportunity to join several of my new colleagues at a forum on Health Care for All. We heard about the priorities for the upcoming legislative session. With me in the photo from left to right are Josh Cutler, Lenny Mirra, and Aaron Vega.

Health care will be one of the many issues on the slate in the next session. It was great to have an opportunity to get an advanced primer on what to expect in the coming months.

Remembering Sandy Hook

We are all still trying to make some sense out of the tragedy in Connecticut. Our hearts go out to the families who lost loved ones, and to the children and adults who witnessed the horror. It boggles the mind, but reinforces the need to commit ourselves to finding ways to stopping these types of events. Let’s learn as much as possible about how this happened. Let’s ensure our kids that we will do everything in our power to protect them and make them feel safe at school. And let’s remember, we can’t do this without respect and empathy for one another’s opinions and ideas as we craft solutions.

New Legislator Academy

From December 12-14, I joined my new colleagues for the New Legislator Academy at UMass Amherst. For three days, we heard from members of the leadership team, current legislators, and House staff about life as a representative.

Topics covered included bill filing, the state budget, ethics, and communications. It also included a simulated legislative session. It was a great experience and orientation to Beacon Hill.
