Streetscape Project Update

Downtown paving will continue this week.  Remaining projects include finishing up curb installation, street striping, and installation of raised crosswalks. As these projects are scheduled we will post updates on the Dahlonega City Hall Facebook Page.

Thank you for your continued understanding as these improvements are made to our city! Please feel free to contact City Hall with any questions.

Extraordinary Service Award

This month's Extraordinary Service Award goes to John Tolbert! John has been a faithful employee to the City of Dahlonega since 2004. For the past 12 years, John Tolbert has served the City as an ambassador to the Water Department. Within the Water Department, John has worked as a Meter Reader. The primary role of a meter reader is to be knowledgeable of the entire water and meter reading system. However, John has always surpassed his regular duties. John has exceeded all expectations by also knowing the location of every meter in the system. In the words of Lisa Southers, "Anytime we needed assistance with meter issues, John was the person to call." John is retiring this year and while we are sad to see him go, his mark on Dahlonega will last forever.

Congratulations John, your service to the City of Dahlonega is greatly appreciated!
Cost Savings at the Waste Water Treatment Plant
SPLOST funds were used to fund work at the Waste Water Treatment plant that resulted in a savings of $20,000 a year in electricity costs.  Outdated blower motors were replaced with more energy efficient motors.  Blower motors are a vital part of a waste water treatment facility as they place dissolved oxygen in the water which assists with the nitrification process and aids in the growth of aerobic microbial organisms.
Thank you to the Waste Water Treatment Plant staff for continuing to be good stewards of City resources and for working diligently to provide the community with water that meets or exceeds state and federal waste water drinking standards.
Cemetery Committee Cleanup Day
The City of Dahlonega's Cemetery Committee's Cleanup Day was a huge success, all because of those who volunteered! On April 14, 2018, committee members and volunteers showed up and showed out for the Cleanup Day. Thanks to the participants, the historic value of Dahlonega's cemeteries will continue to be preserved.

If you would like to get involved with the Cemetery Committee, the committee meets on the third of every Tuesday at 6:00 PM in City Hall.

Mark Hajduk and his son, Ben, traveled from Forsyth County to participate in the Cleanup Day.
