Dahlonega Municipal Court Recognized

Pictured Above - Brandy Clifford, Solicitor's Assistant; Doug Parks, Solicitor; Taylor Ewing, Court Clerk

The City of Dahlonega's Municipal Court was recognized in the Georgia Municipal Association's November issue of "Georgia's Cities" for outstanding organizational improvements that foster community trust and ensure a fair and orderly court procedure. Many changes have been made by the municipal court including seamless integration with the district attorney's office, obtaining an assistant district attorney and implementing a consistent record keeping process. "We all work very hard to provide the best court experience to the community and this recognition of our efforts is a nice reminder that our work does not go unnoticed," said Taylor Ewing, court clerk. As municipal courts across the state participate in a revamped training program and look for ways to improve,  courts such as Dahlonega's will be looked to as an example of how to enhance public safety and overall quality of life for residents through the municipal court system.

Tell Me About...Dahlonega Wastewater

Mr. Buck McCalister, Wastewater Treatment Supervisor, gave us a tour of the facility responsible for cleaning Dahlonega's wastewater.

The City of Dahlonega Wastewater Treatment Facility treats roughly 700,000 gallons per day of sewage from around the City.  It is this plant that accepts all the water from City residents, businesses, industry and institutions and makes it once again clean, clear and suitable for Yahoola Creek, the Chestatee River and Lake Lanier.  The plant utilizes a combination of filters, screens, ultraviolet lights and what are called Sequential Batch Reactors to remove harmful impurities in our wastewater. These processes ensure that water leaving the plant exceeds all state and federal guidelines for wastewater treatment.  Thanks to Buck and his team for working every day to keep Dahlonega’s water clean and safe!
