Employee Spotlight

Clemons Receives Certificate of Distinction
Dahlonega Council member Michael Clemons received the prestigious Certificate of Distinction award from the Harold F. Holtz Municipal Training Institute at the Georgia Municipal Association’s 83rd Annual Convention.  The Certificate of Distinction is the highest level of Georgia Municipal Association training certification. Clemons was one of six city officials to receive the Certificate of Distinction at the Annual Convention.  Clemons is also the first City of Dahlonega Councilmember to receive this award.
“This is an outstanding achievement,” said GMA Executive Director Lamar Norton. “We commend Council member Clemons for this accomplishment and for the dedication he’s shown in using this valuable resource to become a more effective city official.”
Around the City
For a splash of gold this spring, daffodil bulbs have been planted in the flower beds around the square. Thank you to our Public Works team and all of our wonderful volunteers for their work downtown this month!
Lumpkin Youth Leadership Visits City Hall 
November was Lumpkin Youth Leadership's Local Government Day. The students learned about the City's economic development initiatives, toured City Hall and spoke with employees in Public Works/Engineering, Municipal Court and Finance about their role and responsibilities within the organization. Lumpkin Youth Leadership is a collaborative effort of agencies across the county who share the common goal of promoting the education and empowerment of Lumpkin County's youth.
2016 Georgia Urban Forestry Award
On November 15th Executive Director of the Georgia Urban Forest Council, Mary Lynne Bleckley, presented the City a framed print of a Sugar Maple by artist Barry Nehr in recognition of the City being awarded for Outstanding Greenspace in 2016. 2016 also marks the 15th consecutive year that Dahlonega has achieved the Tree City USA designation. 
City Christmas Celebration 
The City of Dahlonega Christmas party had a special visitor this year, Santa Claus!  

Thank you to all the behind the scenes elves who made this night possible and to the City of Dahlonega employees for another great year of service!
