Employee of the Year

The City of Dahlonega is pleased to announce the selection of Ricky Joe Iwanski as its Employee of the Year. If you have ever driven Morrison Moore Parkway, any city street, or visited City Hall, you have seen and benefited from Ricky’s work. Ricky’s dedication and commitment to the City is demonstrated by nearly 45 years of faithful service since his original hire as a 16 year-old on June 21,1974.

During that time, he has not only performed countless duties in nearly all field departments, but has served as a mentor to dozens of other coworkers under several City Managers. His ability to satisfy his own professional obligations, while simultaneously forwarding the careers of less experienced workers, is of great value to the City and its residents.

South Grove Street Storm Drain Project

City crews have recently completed the installation of a new storm drain structure and roughly 250’ of pipe on South Grove Street near the Riley Road intersection.  This puts an end to the low-shoulder situation that has existed along that stretch for years.  Hats off to the guys that completed the work in cold rainy weather resulting in a safer and more pleasant driving experience for our citizens and visitors.

Saturday of Service

Dahlonega Main Street held a Saturday of Service Clean Up Day on Saturday, February 9th. Despite the dreary skies and cool temperatures, students from UNG Dahlonega teamed up with members of the Dahlonega Sunrise Rotary Club, Dahlonega City Councilwoman JoAnne Taylor and her husband Ken, and uber-volunteer Evelyn Shirley to Make Dahlonega Shine by picking up litter throughout the downtown. Dahlonega Mayor Sam Norton (and fellow Sunrise Rotarian) took this photo of the group before we began. Missing from the photo are JoAnne, Ken, Evelyn, and Patrick Seagraves who was instrumental in bringing together the UNG volunteers as a part of UNG's Saturday of Service Project which takes place once a semester. Thanks, Patrick!
