Upcoming Improvements to Downtown
This spring, we’ll see a cooperative effort with partial funding from the Georgia DOT through its Local Maintenance and Improvement Grant.  This will bring fresh asphalt to portions of Choice Street, Alma Street, Torrington Road, Memorial Drive and Derrick Street.  Later in the summer, the City plans to resurface South Chestatee and a stretch of Main Street from Grove Street to Sunset Drive as part of a larger project that will also include sidewalk upgrades and other modifications to walkways to increase Dahlonega’s level of compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
Around Your City
Just in time for Spring, the daffodil planted downtown have bloomed! Thanks goes to Biker Mike, Nancy Lovingood and Tom Joyner for planting the bulbs this past January.
The infrastructure projects are continuing. The connection of individual customer service lines should take place this week following completion of mandated testing of the new water main. Once the connections above are made, reconstruction of sidewalks, rebuilding planter beds and putting the pedestrian amenities can begin. Asphalt replacement will begin as soon as possible, thereafter.
Thank you to everyone for their patience as inconveniences occur!
Employee Spotlight
This month's Employee Spotlight is Mike Crann, better known as "Biker Mike"! He came to Dahlonega in 2007 when looking for a new town to settle in and after one look at downtown  he decided this was where he belonged. After serving as a volunteer for 10 years, Biker Mike is now an official employee of the City of Dahlonega. He is now the City's landscaping specialist working to keep the city clean and beautifully maintained.  With 60 years of experience and knowledge he has been a great asset to our team.  You may see him pop into Picnic Cafe for a quick coffee break and to say hello to friends but besides that he is always out working hard to ensure Dahlonega is a city people want to live in and visit.
