We meet in the parking lot at the dead end of 27 Mile Rd., west of Werderman Rd. Please bring your gloves and wear sturdy boots and clothing appropriate for the weather. Phragmites Management

We continue working with the Lake St. Clair Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area (LSC-CISMA) and will be inventorying phragmites and other invasives over the next couple of months. The CISMA was not awarded a grant for actual treatment of invasive species this past cycle but was awarded a grant for an administrator. We're all working toward being awarded another grant during the next cycle.
There is also work left to do in regard to the previous grant cycle. Part of our commitment was habitat restoration. We have some basic plans in place and will be tweaking and improving those plans in the coming months. Hopefully, some of the restoration projects will come to fruition this fall. We will need help!
We at Friends would again like to thank our contributors who made it possible for us to participate in the last grant cycle.  Without your financial, equipment and volunteer donations we would not have been able to meet the match requirements. SALUTE!

Get Out There

If you haven't already, get out there and enjoy what Wetzel SRA has to offer. Spring is around the corner and many birds and waterfowl are returning or laying-over at Wetzel on the way to their summer homes and breeding grounds. There have been 214 species identified at Wetzel SRA, some that are quite rare. If you would like a copy of the list please email me at
It's a great time of year to be outdoors!
If you know someone who would be interested in being a part of Friends have them contact me. Friends is now completely due-less and membership is free. We need people who are interested in Wetzel SRA and want to see it continue to be a place for generations to come to enjoy.
Contact me at (586)295-8498 or today.
