Dear Friends,

February has been simply incredible! And largely due to the support and generosity from all of you. That's right, we raised enough money through our crowd-funding campaign to travel to the Feminist Art Conference in Toronto. While we did not reach our goal, we did raise 69%! Woot woot!!! THANK YOU for your support; it truly means the world to us!

Updates / Events

February Cycle. For the first time in quite a few months, we are finally releasing NEW ART!! This time it's a little bit different. Rather than still photography, we produced a 6-minute video that truly captures the beauty in the movement between the blood and water. Watch Untitled #1 now, then share it with your friends! ;-)
See It Live.

March 1 - 31, 2014
"Period Pieces" | Urban Artroom
Gothenburg, Sweden
Period Pieces marks the debut of Beauty in Blood in Europe. Artists, Jen and Rob Lewis, are thrilled to have their work appear along side artists like Arvida Bystrom (There Will Be Blood), Petra Collins (The Ardorous), and Josefin Persdotter (TAMPONGÖRHÄNGEN) in this menstruation awareness-raising exhibition. Additionally, Period Pieces includes the first ever Beauty in Blood art video, Untitled #1. This 6-minute work picks up where the still images leave off by displaying the incredibly beautiful fluid dynamic relationship between blood and water in real-time. Continue reading the press release...
March 3 - 8, 2014
"Feminist Art Conference" | Beaver Hall Gallery
Toronto, ON

Because of our fundraising success, we will travel to Toronto later this week to play an integral role in the 2014 Feminist Art Conference (FAC). Not only do we have 10 images on display in the exhibition, but I will also speak on the Health Image and Feminism Panel. How does patriarchy affect our menstrual well being?  Perhaps more exciting than both these is the fact that we are leading the documentation efforts for FAC. We will coordinate about a dozen volunteers to film all the conference events Thursday through Saturday and Rob will join the volunteers on the ground filming as the Director of Photography.

FAC sold out within the first week of announcing ticket sales so you can't buy tickets, but you can read all about this important conference, the artists, and speakers here as well as view the art all week long at Beaver Hall Gallery. Head over to Facebook for a sneak peek of the show. And don't forget to watch the video promo

Recently, I discovered that I have a feminist blogger as a distant relation. "A women studies major," my mom told me. Through my mom and great aunt I was introduced to Ms. Samantha Heuwagen and her awesome Tumblr blog, A Feminist Life. She is a sex-positive feminist working towards a career as a sex therapist. Because she loved the art show much, Samantha turned Beauty in Blood into a "matter of cause". Matter of Cause is a news, opinion, and activism blog that strives to reframe or establish new perspectives on political issues ranging from immigration to women's rights. Read Samantha's piece "Beauty in Blood: The Magic of Menstruation".
