The OpenGov Foundation is dedicated to developing and deploying technologies that support every citizen's ability to participate in their government, and hold it accountable.
Happy Friday!

We are very excited to announce the launch of Envision Chicago, a student civic engagement initiative, with our partners in Chicago! Young Chicagoans will explore how their city government works, come up with ideas for improvement and engage with city leaders to build a better city, together.

Envision Chicago includes $1,000 scholarships for the winning ideas and this first round kicked off with Chicago City Clerk Susana Mendoza, the four aldermen representing the participating wards and our generous sponsors and supporters.

Click to watch the video and check out ChicagoCode.org/Envision to learn more about this exciting opportunity for the future leaders of the city! Retweet the announcement here.

Earlier today, I was honored to receive the 2016 James Madison Award from the American Library Association. This award is given to organizations or individuals who have championed, protected and promoted public access to government information and the public’s right to know how it functions.

The award was presented at the National Freedom of Information Day Conference and you can watch my acceptance speech or read it here. Let me know what you think!

About The OpenGov Foundation

OpenGov is a small non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)3 foundation working to open government. That means making it easier for people to access and use as much government information as possible. We believe innovative technology and open data can help deliver democratic governments that listen to citizens, operate efficiently, and solve our shared challenges the smart way.

We believe democracy means everyone should have the chance to be a hands-on contributor.
