Future of London February 2014 Update

February Update - V for Variety

In the event frenzy between Christmas and half-term, we've been leading and attending talks on partnerships, placemaking, professional ethics, RTPI's Centenary and more. If you haven't already, download RTPI's London-focused Kaleidoscope City, an engaging [and free!] anthology on planning the capital.
In other 'friends' news, we're delighted that Poplar HARCA has joined Future of London. The Poplar connection followed a Communities in Transition field trip; this lively series starts up again during Green Sky Thinking week; watch for info here. We’re also cooking up new Breakfast Seminars, starting with boroughs and the public health mandate. See below for details on that and our second Maximising Crossrail seminar on Feb 25th.
Finally, our new Prospectus is now online! If you’d like to get involved in any of our work, drop us a line – or come find me. On March 5th, I'll be talking cross-sector capacity at Lovell's CIH Brighton stand, and will chair RTPI's Connected City that evening. Wish us luck with the trains, and hope to see you at one or the other.
Thanks for checking in!

Research seminars: Maximising Crossrail, Part 2

Our Crossrail station regeneration programme is gathering speed – our first research seminar produced many useful insights, and our second, on cross-sector collaboration, is Tuesday, Feb 25th. This event will build on the first discussion and look at strategies for greater coordination between agencies, from policy alignment through to private sector engagement. For more information and to register, visit our website.

Breakfast seminar series: Delivering public health

Breakfast Seminar
A year after responsibility for public health was devolved to local authorities, a new three-part seminar series from FoL will share knowledge and best practice in public health delivery. These breakfast seminars are for practitioners working in all aspects of the public sector, and are kindly hosted by FoL partner Lewis Silkin. If you are interested in attending any of these events, please register your interest and specify which seminar(s) at events@futureoflondon.org.uk

Spotlight: Home is at the heart of Rayners Lane

Rayners Lane
For our latest Spotlight, we caught up with Home Group’s Head of Design (and Future London Leaders graduate), Dhruv Sookhoo. Dhruv spoke to us about Home Group’s work on the Rayners Lane Estate in LB Harrow as it nears the end of a major 12-year regeneration programme. Achievements include high levels of community participation and significant improvements in design quality across the estate.
