June update – Grow up or grow out?

Hello all -
It's time to celebrate! Not only did we get excellent ideas from our well-received London 2050: Grow up or grow out? debate (see below), we're also about to graduate Future London Leaders Round 7 and our first Leaders Plus cohort.
To honour their achievement, reunite past mentors and graduates, and support our alumni network - whose activities now range from a discussion on Southall to running the Hackney Half-Marathon to exchanging site visits - we're throwing a July 2nd "100th" party at the Building Centre, marking the 106th candidate through the Leaders programme. If you haven't RSVP'd yet, drop us a line at events@futureoflondon.org.uk
This is a fitting time to welcome new member LB Lewisham, who joined with a keen focus on FLL. We'll see them - and hopefully some of you - at the always-interesting housing debate run by FLL sponsor Lovell. You can see what else we're up to below; as always, please feel free to send us ideas for eventsfield trips or spotlights.
Thanks, and see you out there!
Lisa Taylor

Programme Highlights

London 2050 - Grow up or grow out?

London 2050 - Grow up or grow out?
Our June 11th City Hall debate asked how London should accommodate growth: by densifying? Or by expanding beyond our boundaries? The answer, of course, is a bit of both - but along the way our expert panel highlighted key issues in delivering and paying for housing, infrastructure and viable places - see here for the full story. Stay tuned as we explore the practical issues raised over the coming months!

Delivering Public Health seminars

Public Health
Our public health seminar series concluded June 5th with Food and health: Cross-sector resources. Speakers looked at the state of London's food system, how it affects the health of its citizens, and how it can be used to enable healthier living and support local economies. A report of the previous seminar, Poverty, inequality and health, is also available.

Communities in Transition

For our latest Communities in Transition field trip, we teamed up with FoL members Westway Trust to show visitors their work beneath the A40 motorway in North Kensington. After trying their hand on the sports centre climbing walls, visitors were shown Westway's range of projects, from health to retail and arts to industry, all housed under the flyover. See the write-up here.

Spotlight: Taking stock at TfL

Old Street
Our Spotlight series continues with an interview with TfL Commercial Development Director Graeme Craig on the organisation’s ambitious network-wide development and asset management efforts. These range from major joint ventures and the residential conversion of 55 Broadway to click-and-collect outlets and pop-up offerings in Old Street station.
