November Update – What lurks beneath?

Hello all –
Having just delivered a capacity-crowd conference on estate renewal, with a report and in-depth seminars to follow, FoL is about to host Surface Tension, a Nov 26th mini-conference focused on underground London's impact on the world above. What's the greatest threat to the city's infrastructure viability? How can above- and below-ground projects like Crossrail and the Thames Tideway Tunnel work effectively together? How do you balance the greater good with local impact? Should we uncover London's lost rivers? Find out more and register here!
You can see all of our current and upcoming programmes below. For now, welcome to new member Notting Hill Housing!

Thanks, and see you out there –
Lisa Taylor

Programme Highlights

Engaging Private Landlords in Energy Efficiency

Our major research project on engaging private landlords in energy efficiency, sponsored by EDF Energy, is almost complete. Catch up on the project with a write-up on our second research seminar â€“ on how to engage London's 'invisible' landlords through licensing and accreditation â€“ or our blog on improving standards in London's PRS. The report launches 3rd Dec â€“ sign up here.

Working Beyond Boundaries

Our first 'London 2050' briefing paper is out. Working Beyond Boundaries builds on our 30th Sept roundtable, and has been produced thanks to support from Regeneris. The paper discusses growth and strategic planning across London and the South East, with a view to sharing best practice and supporting collaborative efforts in the region. Get your copy here!

Delivering Estate Renewal

London 2050
Thanks to all who joined our 6th Nov conference, Delivering Estate Renewal. The capacity event was very well received; watch for a summary and a joint paper on estate renewal with Urban Design London and New London Architecture, plus in-depth work on themes from the conference through 2015. Presentations are now up on our website.

Rethinking SME Workspace

Drawing exercise
SMEs have capacity to deliver significant jobs and growth in London, and new types of workspace can help support their development. How can the public sector deliver and engage with these spaces? We are partnering with the GLA to deliver a practical seminar on 9th Dec focusing on this question. More details are on our website here â€“ RSVP today!

Low Pay in London

Grahame Park
Our 16th Oct seminar, Tackling Low Pay in London, took stock of current trends and looked at what strategies are available to councils to engage with low-pay sectors. A full write-up, including speaker presentations, is now available on our blog.
