Dear Friend,
Men and women work together every day and they both work hard for their families.

And they deserve equal pay for that work. But, sadly, that is not the reality yet. Here in New Hampshire, women still make only 77 cents for each dollar a man earns. It is hard to believe, isn't it?
That's not only bad for women; it's bad for New Hampshire families and the middle class. Fair pay for women means more money in the households of working families. A recent study shows that even among recent graduates there's a wage gap. As a mother of a son and daughter, if they both majored in business, my daughter would be paid just over $38,000 while my son on average would be paid just over $45,000. That's just not right.

That's why I've sponsored Senate Bill 207. This New Hampshire Paycheck Fairness Act would improve and modernize our state’s Equal Pay Law, and give women the tools they need to combat the wage gap. With your help in 2014, employers will stop paying unequal wages to men and women for equal work.

It's time for the New Hampshire Legislature to pass the Paycheck Fairness Act.
Please join me and my Democratic Senate and House colleagues and sign on as a citizen co-sponsor of the New Hampshire Paycheck Fairness Act.
At the current pace nationally, the wage gap will not close for another 45 years. Women in New Hampshire and across America cannot wait another half-century for workplace equality.
By signing on as a citizen co-sponsor, you will show the New Hampshire Legislature that this is the year to begin to finally close the wage gap.

Thank you for all your support,

PS – Do you have a story of wage discrimination? If you can’t make the public hearing on Thursday, January 23rd at 2:30pm in LOB Room 103, will you email me back and tell me that story, so I can share it with the all male Commerce Committee members that will hear this bill?

Paid for by the NH Senate Democratic Caucus.  Sylvia B. Larsen, Chair. 105 North State Street, Concord, NH 03301.
