Spring Lab Share Event Encourages Waste Reduction in Research Space
The Cardinal Green Lab Program, in partnership with Property Management, EH&S, and PSSI, hosted a laboratory sharing event on 3/17 to help labs donate good-quality, usable items to other labs in need. Over 100 labs participated, resulting in at least $50,000 in research funding saved, and a significant amount of “waste” diverted from the landfill. Learn More
SESI Recognized for Sustainability Leadership
The Stanford Energy System Innovations (SESI) project recently received two awards for its sustainability innovation. Acterra's Business Environmental Award and Engineering News-Record's Editors' Choice and Best Energy/Industrial Project Award were both added to SESI's prestigious list of accolades. Learn More
Plug Load Inventory Increases Campus Energy Usage Data
An expanded plug load equipment inventory led by Office of Sustainability interns in summer and fall 2015 has shed light on campus' overall plug load electricity consumption on campus. The results, which now include data for student residences, suggest that plug loads comprise about 34% of building electricity consumption on campus and cost the university about $9 million per year. Learn More

Sustainability Champion of the Month
Roldan Penagos- School of Medicine
Roldan Penagos and his facilities team in the School of Medicine are leading the charge on campus water conservation by retrofitting their department's irrigation controllers with weather-based models. With conservative estimates, these improvements are anticipated to save Stanford 850,000 gallons of water per year. Great job!
