Sustainability Champion of the Month
Craig Barney, Environmental Health and Safety
Craig Barney is a champion at reducing laboratory waste on campus, which often cannot be recycled through regular waste streams. To reduce chemical waste, Craig’s team manages the  Surplus Chemical Program, which has resulted in lower chemical purchase costs by allowing labs to donate unneeded but usable chemicals, and obtain free chemicals from the inventory. EH&S is working to expand the inventory so that it will benefit research even more. Craig is also piloting a lab glove recycling program; instead of going to the landfill the gloves will now be turned into new plastic products.
