More than school, saving lives

Our brother Jack Knispel had the incredible opportunity this past semester to save the life of a person he had never met. He managed this feat by registering to be a bone marrow donor nearly two years ago. This semester, he found out that he was a match for an elderly woman suffering from blood cancer and that he had the opportunity to safe her life, which he gladly took. For more information about this incredible story, check out this article that was in the Kearney Hub.

A Letter from the President:

Brothers,

It is my great pleasure to extend to you greetings from the active chapter here at Iota Gamma. I would first like to thank you all for the continued thoughts and support that you have provided our chapter. Alumni are an essential part of a successful chapter. We are thriving in part due to the role you had as active members as well as your current successes.

As President, I am excited for the future of our Fraternity. This past semester, we really moved to having a compassionate, loving, and selfless approach to who we are as men in Pi Kappa Alpha. There were so many highlights for us this past semester. Working with individuals with developmental disabilities through the Arc of Buffalo County’s Buddy Bowling program and holding a private Christmas caroling rehearsal for a college-aged woman with muscular dystrophy to make her Christmas a little more special are just a couple that really stick out to me as resembling the character of a True Pike. Aside from the numerous hours our men spend serving the Kearney and surrounding communities, we continue to be leaders on our campus. We have strong goals that we believe will continue to move the chapter to a higher level of success. We are continuing the tradition of developing high caliber men prepared for success after college.

Believing in the value of the fraternal experience, I hope that you as alumni see how valuable you are. You are the products of Pi Kappa Alpha from the Iota Gamma chapter, and you are positive role models for us. Please feel comfortable in visiting or openly communicating with the active members of the chapter. We want to be engaged with you and learn from you and your experiences. Furthermore, a successful chapter has strong alumni presence. We want to cultivate strong relations with you as alumni. Thank you again for who you are and the lifelong commitment you have made to Pi Kappa Alpha.

Phi Phi,

King Sergio!

We are extremely proud of our very own Sergio Armando Ceja on being voted as UNK's homecoming king this past fall semester! Sergio is a junior majoring in elementary education. He is our new head of recruitment for Pike as well as being president of Loper Liasons and on the Executive Cabinet for Student Government. We are blessed to have him as a brother and are look forward to seeing what else Sergio accomplishes here at UNK.
Pike is a Family Tradition

Thanks Mike!

The active and alumni members of Iota Gamma would like to extend their sincerest thanks to brother Michael Pelster (’03) for his dedicated service to the Iota Gamma Chapter.  Mike served for the past six years as Iota Gamma Chapter Advisor, having assumed the role in the spring semester of 2009.  Mike was succeeded as Chapter Advisor in December of 2014 by Joshua Schuman (’13) by election of the active members.  Mike’s tenure as Chapter Advisor saw many improvements to Iota Gamma, including a chapter commitment to and achievement of significantly improved academic performance, and also the creation of the Iota Gamma Alumni Advisory Board, which now works actively with the chapter through biyearly executive board retreats and regular Alumni Advisory Board conferences.  Mike continued to faithfully perform his role as Chapter Advisor even after moving in July of 2013 with his wife, Mindy, and two daughters to Holdrege, Nebraska, where he now works for AgWest Commodities.  Through his dedication and passionate service to the fraternity, Mike has provided an example for future Chapter Advisors to follow.  During his time as Advisor, there was not an active member whom Mike did not know by name, nor whom Mike did not connect with on a personal level.  We as Iota Gamma  Alumni should be truly grateful for what Mike has done for the success of our chapter.  To extend a personal thanks to Mike, please email mpelster@goagwest.com. Thank you, Brother Mike!

The Schuman Show

Dear distinguished alumni,

I am thrilled to be writing you today as Iota Gamma’s newly elected Chapter Advisor. I first want to recognize Mike Pelster for his seven years of dedication and service to our chapter. Mike has been very influential in my life and I am honored to be serving as his successor.

As Chapter Advisor, I am incredibly excited for the future of our Fraternity. The chapter has elected outstanding officers who have already impressed me with their vision for the chapter. While you are probably going to see some changes going forward, I want to emphasize that the chapter remains true to our fraternal values. The bonds that connected you to the fraternity during your time in the chapter are the same that bond the undergraduates today.

One main area of focus for the chapter in the coming semester is evaluating our alumni relations program and making much needed improvements.  There are some great ideas coming down the pipeline that are sensational. One idea that I am most excited about is a mentor program to connect alumni and undergraduates in the same career fields. Be on the lookout for additional information going forward from Aaron Kuecker, Alumni Relations Chair.

I want to recognize the men who will be serving on the Alumni Advisory Board:
Operations Advisor - Nate Summerfield
Finance Advisor - Paul Knutson
Recruitment Advisor - Ben Allemann
Education Advisor - Andi Diediker
Health & Safety Advisor - Jeff Ensz
Endowment Fund Manager - Ryan Figgins
Chapter Advisor Emeritus - Mike Pelster

Iota Gamma continues to thrive as an excellence chapter thanks to the solid foundation that was set by the gentlemen that came before us. However, the future of our chapter relies equally on the continued support of our alumni. We have the honor of calling ourselves members of the Pi Kappa Alpha Fraternity, and that comes with a responsibility of lifelong membership. I challenge you to remember the charge you took upon becoming an alumnus member of our distinguished chapter and ask that anyone interested in volunteering their valuable time please contact me. Again, thank you for everything you have given the chapter and I look forward to seeing you at the Kent Estes Golf Tournament in April!

In the Bonds,

Josh Schuman
