"My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth. As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified." John 17:15-19
Our nation was born as a Christian nation. More than 200 delegates came as "founding fathers" to provide leadership for the original United States of America, and every one of those individuals had active membership in a local church. Further, most of them have been quoted in books or manuscripts - entrusting the fabric, foundation, and future of our nation to All Mighty God.
Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. So it is no surprise if his servants, also, disguise themselves as servants of righteousness. Their end will correspond to their deeds. 2 Corinthians 11:14-15
We live in a dangerous time. Truth is a concept that many do not even accept, let alone understand what truth is. Elements of truth, even the very concept of truth, have been twisted and changed into lies to allow individuals to accept what they want to believe.
"Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law." Romans 13:10
I experienced two great reminders today of how important love is. First, I came across three separate children at church today that were having discipline problems. They were disrespectful, acting out, and ungrateful. At first my natural reaction was to be angry and discipline. But, after correcting outward the behavior I wanted to get to know these kids. I took each one aside and asked them about their family, what they like to do, and what is going on in their life.
I charge you in the presence of God and of Christ Jesus, who is to judge the living and the dead, and by his appearing and his kingdom: preach the word; be ready in season and out of season; reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching. For the time is coming when people will not endure sound teaching, but having itching ears they will accumulate for themselves teachers to suit their own passions, and will turn away from listening to the truth and wander off into myths. As for you, always be sober-minded, endure suffering, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry. 2 Timothy 4: 1-5
Our nation is hurting this week through the great loss of life that we have experienced. It is important now as much as ever that we as followers of Jesus Christ show love and encouragement to others. There is a great deal of fear with both black and white citizens in America. And, we are being placed in conflict with one another with media pundits that wish to make this a black vs. white issue. We cannot let this happen.
