Take This Brings Hope to PAX East
Take This and Wyrmwood Have Partnered On A Project For This Year’s PAX East

April 19, 2016 (Raleigh, North Carolina) – Take This returns to PAX East with a symbol of hope to share with all. Wyrmwood, creators of beautiful hardwood deck boxes; dice vaults; and other tabletop gaming accessories, have joined forces with Take This to create the first edition “Box of Hope”, including the unique Hope Shield and information and advice from Take This. Made exclusively for Take This, this token of kindness that can be carried with you as a remembrance for those no longer with us, or as a reminder to take the time you need to care for yourself. The Box of Hope can be purchased at the Take This booth in the Diversity Hub and Lounge, Room 151AB, and at the Wyrmwood booth, C1106 in Tabletop. Please remember to take time for yourself during PAX East and stop into the AFK Room, Room 251, on Friday and Saturday 11am-7pm and on Sunday 12pm-6pm.

The Box of Hope project started when Eric Dupuis, Co-Owner of Wyrmwood, reached out to Russ Pitts, Co-Founder of Take This a few months ago. Eric has been moved by the work Take This does and he wanted to find a way to support Take This with a physical item that people could keep on themselves as a reminder to have hope and/or share with others. Eric shares, “I reached out to Russ after a tragic loss in my gaming community this past Christmas. I wanted to increase our support for Take This, because one of the most important decisions anyone can make is to face their mental health struggles with support.

As a child, I witnessed first hand how these struggles affect everyone in a home, not just the sufferer. From my immediate and extended family, I witnessed two paths – how things can get better with support and how the cycle of suffering continues when action is not taken.

Take This does the very important work of giving people a safe space to share what is happening in their lives. They’ve made it okay to say, “right now I am not okay and I need help.”

Too many lives go by silently suffering and it is because of groups like Take This that hope can be shared. This is why we wanted to create something unique that supports their work.”

The Box of Hope can be purchased for $20 with all proceeds going to Take This’ continued work to reduce the stigma of mental health issues. One in 100 boxes have been created with a special inlay (see photos). Pitts shared his thoughts on how to use the Box of Hope, “Too often we see people who are suffering, or people we know in our daily lives who could use a measure of support, and we just don’t know how to start that conversation. The Box of Hope can be a conversation starter. And a concrete gesture of love and support. I’ve been carrying one of the Hope Shield prototypes for weeks, and just the physical presence of it reminds me that I’m not alone, and that there’s hope in the dark times. We hope it can do the same for many others.”
