August 3 - Annual YJA Six Flags Great Adventure Trip!

It's time for our annual Six Flags Great Adventure day trip! We'll spend the entire day riding miles of steel, eating sugar covered and perhaps fried junk food, and of course hanging out with all your favorite Jains from the MA region! So feel free to invite your family and friends (everyone is welcome)!

Ticket prices are described below and will be around $40. Go to Six Flags website, click on "Buy Tickets Now" and purchase the "3-Day Advance Purchase Ticket". Make sure to purchase your tickets BEFORE JULY 31st, or else you will not be allowed to enter the park. Note that the parking at the theme park is $22 per car so please carpool. August 10 - YJA SoCal zPizza and Boomers! Mini-Golf Night

Join fellow youth on Saturday, August 10th for an evening of fun and games! We'll have dinner at 5pm at zpizza (Irvine - Harvard Place Center, 17655 Harvard, Suite D, Irvine, CA 92614). Visit their website for menu options - we called in and they have Jain and vegan options! Then, get your GAME face on as we'll go to Boomers! (3405 Michelson Drive at Harvard) around 7pm. August 10 - Northern California West Coast Game Night

Join Northern California Jains on Saturday, August 10 from 8pm - 11pm at the Jain Center of Northern California, for a night of fun as we play cards, board games and more! Contact Pankti Doshi for more information!

August 10 - YJA Boston Goes To Six Flags

Northeast Jains - get ready for our first ever Six Flags event! We'll spend the entire day riding miles of steel, eating junk food, and of course hanging out with all your favorite Jains from the NE region! Feel free to invite your family and friends! We'll end the night with dinner at Taco Bell (456 Sumner Ave, Springfield MA) at 8:30 PM. Feel free to join us even if you can't make it to Six Flags.  We are organizing carpools and are also looking for volunteers to drive. August 23-24 - 2nd Annual International Jain Conference: "Women's Perspectives in the Dharma Traditions"

What is the state of women in the world today? How do religious traditions hinder women’s freedoms and what opportunities exist for developing new paradigms and practices? Join Claremont Lincoln University for a  two-day event of powerful keynote speakers and presenters across traditions who respond to  gender violence, political exclusion, and cultural marginalization by catalyzing women’s expansive power and creativity toward tangible change. September 14 - Mr. & Ms. Vegetarian Pageant 2013

Vegetarian Vision (a non-profit organization) is extremely excited to announce a Mr & Ms. Vegetarian on Saturday September 14th at SUNY Old Westbury.  This pageant is targeted for young adults between 18-25 years with the goal to spread vegetarianism.  Almost $3,500 worth of scholarship money will be distributed as prizes.  The preliminary round of the pageant will be a 250 word max. essay on "Why do you want to be a vegetarian?" Essay can be submitted online or mailed at the address provided on the website.  Essay submission deadline is August 31st.  The first 50 essays will receive free admission at the event (dinner included). Call for Writers and Contributors for Young Minds!

This is a reminder that we are accepting submissions for our next Young Minds issue! It will be a post-JAINA blast, with plenty of pictures, memories, and perhaps even an announcement I KNOW some of you are excited to hear! (Here's a hint: #yja14). We’re sure by now everyone has a summer story to tell, and we would love to share it in our Summer Issue of Young Minds!

We are accepting submissions of any length (within reason), any topic (as long as it pertains to Jainism in a relevant manner), and from anyone! Just make sure you also send a picture of yourself. Send any and all submissions to

Paryushan/Das Lakshan: Better Than Ever Before

It’s that time of year again! September 2 to 9 is Paryushan and September 9 to 18 is Das Lakshan Parva. YJA wants to take on a project to help out youth who are away from home-- specifically those in college and beyond. But we need your help! Please take five minutes to give us your input. Let’s make this our best Paryushan/Das Lakshan yet!
