"Prince was colorful, intelligent, sexy, brave, and unique. His music inspired many musicians to step out of their box, and to brave criticism for being different. To the universe, different is what inspires life. Just look around and you’ll see we’re all somewhat cut from the same cloth but different. It is our uniqueness that reminds us WE only get this one lifetime to make our own music."
- Debbie Rosas on Prince
Saying farewell to a strong spirit
I was in San Diego this past Thursday when I learned, with the entire world, about Prince passing. It
doesn't feel odd to me to grieve him so deeply. His music is somatically imprinted in my body along with memories of people, places and moments when his artistry shaped or reflected my experience. Artists like Prince and David Bowie helped me embrace being a creative soul. They showed me that a strong spirit is one that can't help but express itself, including by transcending rules, boundaries, stereotypes, labels and judgments. While I will never know for sure, I assume they felt fear like anyone else. And I admire their courage in being true to themselves.

Reflecting on Debbie Rosa's quote
above is timely as today I wrapped up teaching the third class of
series on the card of Judgment
. This archetype is about heeding the call of your spirit and saying yes to its fullest and deepest expression. It's the summons to seize this one lifetime to "make our own music." It reminds me of the leap of faith I took two years ago when I left a stable job to essentially teach Nia
, grow the Embodied Tarot
and birth ArcanaDance
. It has certainly not been easy but I wouldn't trade the journey for anything.

The next ArcanaDance series
is on the card of Strength, the archetype of
bravery. Strength is a primal call to summon our inner courage when faced with adversity. It's about acknowledging your fears but having the will to stay aligned with the integrity of your spirit and how it wants to express its truth through you. I am on this journey with you. As with every powerful ArcanaDance class, I both facilitate and take the medicine. I am humbled by and grateful for how it has transformed my life. There are moments when I am afraid I won't know how to give ArcanaDance wings. Yet, it's spirit is so strong and gives me the courage to stay aligned with it. And so I am so excited for what I will learn, along with you, in exploring the Strength card. The series begins on Sunday, May 15.

Tarot-ing and more in New York
This Wednesday, I head to New York to attend my absolute favorite tarot conference, the Readers
Studio. This international gathering of tarot people of all levels and abilities enriches my tarot practice and delights me on a personal level in so many ways. This year, like the past two, I get to continue my tradition of offering a movement break during one of the master class sessions. Oh joy! After Readers Studio, I will be spending an extra week and a half visiting my family and getting to spend Mother's Day with my beautiful mother, my 97 year old abuelita, my beloved niece and her daughter (squeal!), my brother, his wife and their two little sons (double squeal!). I haven't been with my mother on Mother's Day for twelve years. I get tears in my eyes just thinking about that. Oh and guess what? I get to see Irene Minkina!

During this three-week series we will explore the tarot card, Strength, and its associated minor arcana cards (8 or Air, 8 of Water, 8 of Fire and 8 of Earth). In the tarot, the Strength card represents the archetype of bravery. Strength is a primal call to summon our inner courage when faced with adversity.
This is the perfect archetype to explore when you are noticing that fear, doubt and perceptions of weakness are limiting and restricting your life. Guided by the voice of Strength, we will bring a somatic infusion of compassion and self-love to embolden our hearts and lives. You are so much stronger than you know!
