“Eartha Kitt embodies the perseverance of the Seven of Pentacles.
This card is linked to having a vision. It means looking at your accomplishments and understanding how they all fit together to form a life well-lived. The Seven of Pentacles also represents investing in what’s important to you and patiently awaiting the rewards. Eartha Kitt worked hard and passionately for decades, through ups and downs, and despite shifts in public opinion.
This card prompts us to ask:
Where do I want to invest my time, talent, money, and energy? What could the results be?”

Thursday June 9, 2022
Just before we left for New York to celebrate my mother’s 80th birthday, I pulled the tarot card and movement cards for the Embodied Movement Explorations class for the month of June. I pulled the Seven of Pentacles, a card that has always been meaningful for me around patience and perseverance. Even more, this archetypal teacher has always asked me to honor and respect natural time - my own growth process and the arc of my own healing journey.
In the Seven of Pentacles, there is no room for comparison to others. There is simply an intentional loving awareness and assessment of where you are in this moment measured against where you want or desire to be…for yourself. I credit this archetype for teaching me to take stock of my efforts and of capturing in its basket the bounty associated with my devotion and investment in my well-being in life. Even if I can’t see my progress, I trust that something is shifting. Working with this card has taught me to appreciate my harvest and also the invisible magic happening beneath the soil.
Spending time with my family was full of sweetness. I got to see my nephew perform in his middle school production of Matilda, Jr. My sister-in-law is regaining strength after going through treatment for breast cancer. My mother has entered her 80’s looking youthful, steady on her feet, strong-willed, and keenly aware of the changes being asked of her in an aging body. She still pushes her limits but is creating more time and space to respect the rest her body needs.
We had a conversation about the Seven of Pentacles and she said that having children and an aging parent taught her everything she needs to know about patience and perseverance. It was a hilarious conversation that included memories of tantrums, stubbornness, and willful tug of war. I can’t share more detail about it or she may come after me! She did say that she wouldn’t trade the journey for anything. She said she’d never quit before the harvest and the harvest for her was looking around the table at the three generations connected to her…celebrating her 80 years of life. My abuela and great nieces were not present for the celebration but are alive and well - that would be five generations <3. For me, just knowing that my mother is second in five generations of my family alive right now is enough to deepen my awe and respect for the Seven of Pentacles. Growing a family tree takes time and reaping the rewards of its legacies takes awareness and gratitude.
For the month of June in our Embodied Movement Explorations classes (Wednesdays at 4PM PDT), we are working with the Seven of Pentacles and four movement cards (from my oracle deck soon to be released) with the focus of devotion to our well-being. Many of you have asked for more detail about this class. It is no longer a yoga-dance class. It is now a fusion of somatic movement practices that support a central theme inspired by a tarot or oracle card (this month it's the Seven of Pentacles). The movement practices are drawn from SomaSoul, Shake Your Soul, Four Seasons QiGong, Somatic Yoga, Somos Luceros, ArcanaDance and Nia. I have reinstated my Nia teaching license but do not plan on teaching Nia (full classes and routines), but rather will be incorporating aspects of Nia into classes in the future. Everyone who has experienced the new Wednesday class format loves it and I love it too as it really offers broad creative and expressive freedom for me and for participants. If you are unable to attend class live, feel free to email me to rent a class recording.
This weekend, at popular request I am teaching the Angelique Kidjo and Wiyaala mix - Dance of Becoming: An Embodied Exploration of Being Bold, Brave, Beautiful, and Balanced. Take note that class this Sunday will be a half hour earlier. Class will be held at 9:30AM PDT on Sunday, June 12. I am in training for Shake Your Soul Dance (part of Somatic Therapy training) all weekend and will be teaching during my lunch break on Sunday. In training this weekend, we are learning the movement repertoire for arterial, which is the fluid/blood that moves/flows from the heart out to the cells. It’s pulsing and rhythmic movement. I am already excited to share this repertoire with you in the weeks ahead! Get ready :D.
Classes this week!
Deeply grateful for this community,
Jennifer
Somos Luceros
Somos Luceros is a somatic dance practice designed to illuminate the wisdom of your body and cultivate deep embodiment of archetypal qualities that offer lightness, depth and joy. The dance moves are simple and guided by the language of storytelling, opening new chapters in our bodies where we can see and feel our most luminous potential. Release the stories in your body that weigh you down and reclaim your light. In Spanish, Somos means “we are” and Luceros means “bringers of light” or “bright stars.” This name honors my father, my paternal indigenous ancestors in South America, my heritage, and our collective oldest ancestor, the stars. We are dancing bodies of light.
With immense gratitude for your continued support,
Jennifer

This class brings together the music of Wiyaala and Angelique Kidjo from two bodies of work I have shared before: Lioness (co-created with Janice Steinberg) and the Dance of Feminine Empowerment.
Both female artists are known for their bold creativity, bravery (especially around social and political issues), and for their beauty. I have added balance as the physical focus of the focus.
The guiding question we will embody in this dance is, how am I becoming more bold, brave, beautiful and balanced in my life?
The dance moves are simple and guided by the language of storytelling. You are invited to receive the choreography, bring it into your body and make it your own.

(Formerly Coming Home to Ourselves Somatic Yoga-Dance)
Body wisdom is being aware of and attuned to what our body needs to feel well. This somatic intelligence and tending can be accessed and cultivated in many ways.
Every week we will explore a variety of somatic movement practices that include somatic dance, yoga, QiGong, archetypal expression (mainly tarot), and other modalities that emphasize mindfulness and that guide self-knowing.
Classes for the month of June will focus on devotion to our well-being. Our guiding tarot card for this class is the Seven of Pentacles/Discs/Earth. The invitation is to practice patience, perseverance and gratitude as we take stock of our progress in the gardens we’ve planted to nourish our inner and outer lives. We take a single step towards building something that will last and devotion allows us to receive the fruits of our dedicated labor.
In this class we center the experience of living, feeling, sensing and moving in our bodies. We learn practices to know ourselves more deeply, cultivate joy, restore from stress, explore creative self-expression, and ways to nourish the various systems (fluid, muscular, skeletal, organ, nervous, and cellular) of our body.
This is not a “fitness” class. This is a wellness class. Come to move your body, develop a deeper appreciation for the intelligence and wisdom of your body, and to learn practices to be well in mind, body, heart and soul.
Wear comfortable clothes to move in. No shoes required. Feel free to have a yoga mat, blanket or towel for floor-based practices.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the class/meeting.

Mary Lenox's Poetry

Following is a poem that Mary emailed to me yesterday <3.
Remembrance
The sun did not forget to rise this dawn
Its radiant glow
Like clockwork
Ascends into blue skies
It did not forget
To anoint the atmosphere
With luminous light
It did not forget
To warm the spirit with fresh hope
It did not forget
To kiss sparse clouds with brightness
It remembered to do what it does every day
Be the light to the world
Why can't we be like the sun?

When I Grow Up - Matilda the Musical!
My nephew played the part of Bruce in his middle school production of Matilda, Jr. It was wonderful! Thanks to him I had song stuck in my head for days! It is sort of (a stretch) a tribute to the Seven of Pentacles. Enjoy :)
