“When the seed breaks through the earth, its potential is activated, and its form becomes articulated.
It begins its journey to become a tree…
The sapling emerges. It now has an internal dimension within the earth and an external one in the world. These two dimensions should be in balance.
An endeavor should be rooted in the internal dimensions of the heart and mind to weather the storms of the outer world.
If a tree extends itself beyond what its roots can hold, it can easily be toppled.
The roots must be strong, and the branches in harmony.”

This week we are wrapping up our month of classes that have been focused on nurturing and celebrating the heart. This Sunday, I will be bringing together those two dances into one playlist - blending the Dance of Love and Freedom and and Shine Your Heartlight. I don’t know about you but spending time with the energetic and physical expressions of the heart center has been deeply nourishing. Through the movement explorations this month I have remembered and restored a connection to the internal anchor of my heart. When I tend to my heart I have much more to give and transmit, and I also have a greater capacity to receive and take in the nourishment that comes from love and care being directed my way. As you will see further below, this Sunday is the culmination of the heart dances of the month by focusing on Broadcasting Love, inspired by this article from HeartMath Institute.
Dancing with the heart got me in touch with my own internal pulse and rhythm, which is often an indicator of whether or not I feel a sense of balance and harmony in my mind, heart and body.
- If my heart feels heavy, I know it can’t and shouldn’t be carrying all the weight on its own; an imbalance of capacity.
- If my arms and hands ache, extensions of my heart, I know I have overreached or overstretched; an imbalance of reciprocity.
- If my chest feels tight and range of motion is restricted, I know I am experiencing resistance, contraction and fear; an imbalance of trust and safety.
- If I feel breathless for too long, I know I have overexerted; an imbalance of energy caused by pushing myself too hard for too long.
There are countless other revelations I had and while much of it was a direct result of dancing with the heart, it also emerged from explorations I experienced and guided in Somatic Interludes, where we’ve been spending time being with and listening to the voices of our visceral organs; lungs, heart, and guts.
Image above right: I was typing this newsletter and was quickly reminded (he shoved the laptop off my lap) by Sir Edgar the cat that I should set everything down and give him my full attention.
What I know for sure is that being anchored in (and attuned to) my inner roots (my viscera) gives me the information I need to be aware of where instability and imbalances are happening. I can then mobilize, mindfully, my energy to restore and sustain stability and steadiness by adapting to, adjusting to, and even countering the imbalances I am experiencing. And I am keenly aware that there are some imbalances (particularly external ones) that may be too monumental to restore to a state of equilibrium (injustices, environmental crises, etc). This month, in our dance classes, I had the opportunity to focus on my heart as one of my visceral anchors. In Somatic Interludes, I also got to explore my lungs and guts as other significant visceral anchors. In all movement classes (Sundays and Wednesdays) for the month of March, we will explore all things related to Balance.
Balance requires an awareness of our center. In the center of our bodies are all of our viscera (internal organs) work to facilitate homeostasis in the body:
- The lungs work maintain a balance of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the blood.
-
The heart provides the rate of blood flow necessary to meet your body's increased metabolic demand for oxygen and nutrients.
- The guts regulate what we ingest, digest and eliminate, and work to maintain (as best as possible) gut flora balance.
We all know this to be true…our body systems are designed to facilitate homeostasis and the way we live our lives can make maintaining or restoring balance much more effortful, straining and challenging on these systems. So balance is not just being able to stay upright. It’s more than standing on one foot without falling over. Balance is awareness of our viscera, body systems, energy levels, skeleton, bones, ligaments, tendons, our breath, emotions, stress levels, and mental state. It’s a dynamic inner dance that requires us to be aware of the ways we may be straining or asking too much of our bodies. Exploring various ways to balance can and often does nurture greater resiliency in all dimensions of our lives. There’s more than one way to restore (and strengthen) the stability and steadiness that fosters balance and next month, we’re going to play with these options!
So many thanks to Krisztina Nagy for requesting Balance as an exploration for the month of March - in honor of her birthday last week :).
Starting this Sunday, February 26, 2023
I am also excited to announce that I will be holding another virtual six-week Somatic Interludes series. The Friday sessions have been incredibly healing, nourishing and revelatory for our community of participants (myself included) so I want to offer the same series again at a different time - this time on Sundays - starting next Sunday, February 26.
There are six sessions. Each one has a specific focus and all are introductory, gentle and experiential:
Feb 26, Session 1: Somatic Awareness
March 5, Session 2: Safety as an Anchor
March 12, Session 3: The Lungs and Breath
March 19, Session 4: The Heart and Connection
March 26, Session 5: The Guts and Power
April 2, Session 6: The Body Speaks
This is the work of my heart light. I love being of service as a somatic educator, somatic therapist, and embodied storyteller/choreographer. My heart is here to shine a light on the body so that we can come back home, inhabit ourselves more fully, and steward these beautiful dynamic vessels of ours. Thank you for supporting these offerings. It means the world to me.

Somos Luceros
Somos Luceros is a somatic dance practice designed to illuminate the wisdom of your body and cultivate deep embodiment of archetypal qualities that offer lightness, depth and joy. The dance moves are simple and guided by the language of storytelling, opening new chapters in our bodies where we can see and feel our most luminous potential. Release the stories in your body that weigh you down and reclaim your light. In Spanish, Somos means “we are” and Luceros means “bringers of light” or “bright stars.” This name honors my father, my paternal indigenous ancestors in South America, my heritage, and our collective oldest ancestor, the stars. We are dancing bodies of light.
With immense gratitude for your continued support,

Join us for Dance to Broadcast Love: An Embodied Exploration of Radiating Love to feel Gratitude, Connection, and Resonance
The month of February is American Heart Month and we’ve been focusing on bringing mindful luminous attention to the heart center.
The idea of Broadcasting Love emerged from an article by HeartMath Institute where they emphasize that "love is the core heart frequency that unifies and lifts people’s perceptions above separation.”
The article outlines some of the benefits of the practice of radiating love with intention, here are just a few:
- Helps to quiet the overactive mind and emotions, which increases our ability to handle the elevated stress on the planet.
- Streams more patience, resilience and flow into our interactions.
- Makes it easier to sense our intuitive heart’s direction for effective choices and guidance.
- More harmony and less stress in our relationships.
- Experience deeper resonance and genuine connection.
This dance is a fusion of Love and Freedom: A Dance Honoring & Celebrating Black History Month & American Heart Month and Shine Your HeartLight: An Embodied Exploration of the Strength, Resilience, and Power of the Heart.
Let’s come together to tune in, sense, and broadcast love in service to nurturing a spirit of gratitude, connection and collective resonance.
The dance moves are simple and guided by the language of storytelling. You are invited to receive the choreography, bring it into your body and make it your own.

Join us for Embodied Movement Explorations for Body Wisdom and Wellness
Body wisdom is being aware of and attuned to what our body needs to feel well. This somatic intelligence and tending can be accessed and cultivated in many ways.
Every week we will explore a variety of somatic movement practices that include somatic dance, yoga, QiGong, archetypal expression (mainly tarot), and other modalities that emphasize mindfulness and that guide self-knowing.
Our focus for the month of March is exploring Balance.
To balance is to make adjustments to the distribution of our weight (or what we are carrying) to restore steadiness and stability to our bodies. These adjustments allow us to remain upright and to maintain a sense of equilibrium, and they can happen both internally and externally. There are inner imbalances that create physical instability in our lives. And likewise, there are outer imbalances that also can be destabilizing to our inner stability (as well as outer!).
Our embodied movement exploration practice this month is focused on discovering balance through play! Making adjustments doesn’t have to be serious or overly strenuous. We will have fun exploring balance from different directions; side to side, front and back, up and down, vertical and horizontal, on and off, and inner and outer. May we can discover countless ways to adjust, offset, counter, and facilitate playful dynamic balance in our bodies.
Our guiding tarot card for this class is the Two of Pentacles (Earth/Discs) and our Embodied Movement Exploration cards are Shift, Steady, Balance, and Hop.
Our movement exploration will be a blend of Nia, Somos Luceros, ArcanaDance, and QiGong.

In this class we center the experience of living, feeling, sensing and moving in our bodies. We learn practices to know ourselves more deeply, cultivate joy, restore from stress, explore creative self-expression, and ways to nourish the various systems (fluid, muscular, skeletal, organ, nervous, and cellular) of our body.
Come to move your body, develop a deeper appreciation for the intelligence and wisdom of your body, and to learn practices to be well in mind, body, heart and soul.
Wear comfortable clothes to move in. No shoes required. Feel free to have a yoga mat, blanket or towel for floor-based practices.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the class/meeting.

Mary Lenox's Poetry & a Request!

Following is the poem, Creating a Garden of Peace, that Mary wrote and shared with us after class this past Sunday. After the poem, see a request to support Mary in publishing her next (3rd) book of poetry!
Creating a Garden of Peace
Be still
Listen to your heart
In the silence of faith
Prepare your garden’s soil
Plant seeds of hope
Fertilize each with love
Remove weeds of fear, doubt, anxiety
Creating space for your seeds to grow
Water with showers of blessings
Welcome the sunlight of joy
Be patient, gentle, and generous
In caring for your garden
Love what is
It offers the harvest of peace

Study Finds that Love Synchronizes Our Hearts with Each Other and the Earth
In a recent global study, researchers at HeartMath Institute, along with collaborators in Lithuania, Saudi Arabia, New Zealand and England, set out to confirm whether people's heart rhythms can synchronize with the rhythms in the resonant frequencies of the Earth’s magnetic fields. During the study, they made a game-changing discovery: practicing a simple heart-focused technique with love at its core synchronized the participants at a physiological level with each other and with the Earth itself.
Watch to learn more! 3 minutes and 18 seconds.
