Thursday, February 16, 2023

We are at the midpoint of February. This month, we’ve been exploring the heart as a source of energy that mobilizes love, freedom, resistance and the exuding of our heart light.

In our Wednesday Embodied Movement Explorations for Body Wisdom & Wellness classes, we explored moving in and out of eclipsing and lifting the veil obscuring the heart light.

An obscured heart is a distant one. It may be dim, as in diminished in some way. It may be darkened in some way. It can be weighed down by loss, grief or sorrow. It may be withdrawn due to fear. It may not want to be visible because it hasn’t been taken care of, respected or regarded in the past. So the heart light dims and either distances or disconnects to protect itself. An eclipsed heart may have difficulty making, sustain, and deepening connection.

Unveiling the heart is about reopening it to light, to aliveness, to possibility, to freedom (of expression), to fuller luminosity, and to connection. Even if we don’t know where we want to point or shine our heart light, it’s important that we have access to it and keep it unobscured. A heart light restored is a homecoming of the spirit. It’s a triumph and a testimony to the strength, resilience and power of the heart.

This restoration of the heart light and homecoming of the spirit is our focus in both our Sunday Somos Luceros class and our Wednesday Embodied Movement Explorations for Body Wisdom & Wellness class. I hope that you can join us. We will be doing the same Shining Your Heartlight dance on both days. It’s truly my new favorite body of work.

Starting next Sunday, February 26, 2023
I am also excited to announce that I will be holding another virtual six-week Somatic Interludes series. The Friday sessions have been incredibly healing, nourishing and revelatory for our community of participants (myself included) so I want to offer the same series again at a different time - this time on Sundays - starting next Sunday, February 26.

There are six sessions. Each one has a specific focus and all are introductory, gentle and experiential:

Feb 26, Session 1: Somatic Awareness
March 5, Session 2: Safety as an Anchor
March 12, Session 3: The Lungs and Breath
March 19, Session 4: The Heart and Connection
March 26, Session 5: The Guts and Power
April 2, Session 6: The Body Speaks

This is the work of my heart light. I love being of service as a somatic educator, somatic therapist, and embodied storyteller/choreographer. My heart is here to shine a light on the body so that we can come back home, inhabit ourselves more fully, and steward these beautiful dynamic vessels of ours. Thank you for supporting these offerings. It means the world to me.

Note: For those of you that want to register for the new Sunday Somatic Interludes series starting next week, Sunday, February 26, please be sure to select all the dates you'd like to register for AND be aware that April 2 is missing from the list. There is a glitch in the Zoom software and for some reason April 2nd is not showing up on the list but there will definitely be a class on that day.

Classes this week:

Deeply grateful for this community,
Jennifer

Schedule:
  • Somos Luceros on Sundays at 9AM PST
  • Embodied Movement Explorations in Body Wisdom & Wellness on Wednesdays at 9AM PST
  • ArcanaDance - next workshop TBA

Somos Luceros

Somos Luceros is a somatic dance practice designed to illuminate the wisdom of your body and cultivate deep embodiment of archetypal qualities that offer lightness, depth and joy. The dance moves are simple and guided by the language of storytelling, opening new chapters in our bodies where we can see and feel our most luminous potential. Release the stories in your body that weigh you down and reclaim your light. In Spanish, Somos means “we are” and Luceros means “bringers of light” or “bright stars.” This name honors my father, my paternal indigenous ancestors in South America, my heritage, and our collective oldest ancestor, the stars. We are dancing bodies of light.

With immense gratitude for your continued support,
Jennifer

Join us for Shine Your HeartLight: An Embodied Exploration of the Strength, Resilience, and Power of the Heart

Our focus for the month of February is the heart and specifically, nurturing our heart light; bringing mindful luminous attention to the heart center.

Our guiding tarot card for this class is the Eight of Cups/Water and our Embodied Movement Exploration cards are Open, Extension, Backstroke, and Pulse.

I chose the Eight of Cups to honor and celebrate the strength of the heart and our innate worthiness to pursue, with devotion, that which ignites and sustains our heart light. With this card we turn our heart center towards greater happiness and the promise of deep soul-level fulfillment. It is the heart light of devotion that is the source of energy that allows us persevere even as we encounter challenges to our capacity to love, be loved, & lead with love.

In this dance exploration, we move in and out of eclipsing and lifting the veil obscuring the heart light. We emphasize the strength of a heart that has been unveiled and celebrate its triumph through resilience. We reclaim our heartlight and shine let it shine bright. Our heart light is an expression of devotion. Whatever it is we are devoted to, we infuse with our love, care and spirit.

Our movement exploration will be a blend of Shake Your Soul, Nia, ArcanaDance, and QiGong. I hope you can join us!

The dance moves are simple and guided by the language of storytelling. You are invited to receive the choreography, bring it into your body and make it your own.

Body wisdom is being aware of and attuned to what our body needs to feel well. This somatic intelligence and tending can be accessed and cultivated in many ways.

Every week we will explore a variety of somatic movement practices that include somatic dance, yoga, QiGong, archetypal expression (mainly tarot), and other modalities that emphasize mindfulness and that guide self-knowing.

The Eight of Cups honors and celebrates the strength of the heart, as well as our innate worthiness to pursue, with devotion, that which ignites and sustains our heart light. We turn our heart center towards greater happiness and the promise of deep soul-level fulfillment.

We will access our heart light with somatic prompts that emphasize mindful attention to the strength and luminosity of the heart center.

We ask ourselves: What is worthy of our passion and devotion? How do we lead from your heart, acknowledging it as a lantern and north star? How do we both deepen and expand our capacity for self-love and love of others? How do we strengthen the heart as an organ, a muscle, and as an energy center?

It is the heart light of devotion that is the source of energy that allows us persevere even as we encounter challenges to our capacity to love, be loved, and lead with love.

Our movement exploration will be a blend of Shake Your Soul, Nia, ArcanaDance, and QiGong.

Mary Lenox's Poetry & a Request!

Following is the poem, I Can't Breathe, that Mary wrote and shared with us after class this past Sunday. After the poem, see a request to support Mary in publishing her next (3rd) book of poetry!

I Can't Breathe

I wondered
What other
Unheard voices say
I can’t breathe

Dying fish of the sea navigating through
Plastic waste and oil invaders
Echo
I can’t breathe

Birds
Call out
Through polluted air
I can’t breathe

Children playing
In urban streets
For lack of space elsewhere
I can’t breathe

Rivers and streams
Full of sewage from earthlings
Scream
I can’t breathe

People of color seek relief from all of the ways oppressors
Have tried to kill, destroy, eliminate
Shout
I can’t breathe

Yet
Young and old around the world
March and proclaim
No more!

We will not stand silently
Hearing those words
Day by day
I can’t breathe
