Look for the Rainbow

"Come rain, come shine
the weather will not hinder
my ability to sever the demons
that sliver into rivers and seas
that consume me
until they wait for the ripe time
and emerge and deliver me
Transform my pain into beauty,

And when time seems to bring only pain
I look for the rainbow
cause the sun also dances with the rain "

- Lyrics from Rainbow by Jeremy Roske

The lyrics above are from the second song in the Nia routine I will be introducing this Sunday, Rise. I have listened to this song at least a hundred times since the routine came out in 2013 but this morning it had a deeper meaning for me. This week I found myself sitting with heartbreaking news that one of my best friends, Kirsten, was grieving the sudden death of her eleven month old niece. I cannot wrap my head or heart around the loss of a child. I don't even know how healing or normalcy could even be possible. I spoke with Kirsten this morning. Tomorrow is the memorial service for her niece, Savannah. She talked about the indescribable pain her family was feeling and also shared her most treasured memories of Savannah. While she can't see the other side of the pain, she said her life was forever changed by loving such a beautiful soul and that is the rainbow she will treasure.

Whatever you are grieving, whatever loss you are holding, know that time will eventually reveal a rainbow as a balm for your heart. Kirsten is a naturopathic physician and she and I often talk about how intentional thoughts/prayer, movement and community have the capacity to heal whatever pain or unease we are holding. So in her honor, this Sunday, we dance to remember Savannah Marie Carle and send our love to Kirsten's grieving family.
