Revisiting Collective Joy
View this email in your browser
"...love is asking me to mention that I am centering pleasure even now, within the small circle. We are a pleasure flock, comforting each other, cheering each other on towards our best lives even today in these conditions. Pleasure connects us to ourselves and each other, to the aliveness at the funeral, to the blessing in the crisis, to the sweet new life pushing green up through the sludge.

We who are not yet dead are responsible for living fully, without regrets, with deep reverence for the wide range of emotion in the human experience. I look for the pleasure of home, of rooting and nesting, of growing things, of moving slowly, of being honest, of writing, of cooking, of dancing, of gratitude, of love. Every single day I dose myself with pleasures small and large, knowing that as it all falls apart, so much is growing; knowing that within myself and my circle I am seeding a path towards a future in which feeling and growing pleasure and aliveness and delight, in relationship to each other and our abundant and perfect planet, is our central focus.

There. It is long, but I have shifted myself from despairing overwhelm back to visionary center. It is a gift that I can only fulfill my own small destiny, follow the instructions that are clearest to me, move with my own consecrated choreography. When I feel completely lost, I can focus each day on being kind, being generous, and being honest. I light candles for all I cannot carry, and then move into the present moment with only my love. As everything crumbles above and around us, it is still true that the most strategic move is the ever changing dance of love."

August 19, 2021

This weekend I am thrilled to be revisiting our community-created playlist - the Dance of Collective Joy. Back in January, our Somos Luceros community co-created a playlist of songs that bring us joy. We collected enough songs to create at least 3 playlist - and yes, I will be putting together a second one soon :). As we all witness and experience an intensity of stressors and distressing situations (individual and collective), I wanted to return to our Collective Joy playlist. Even though we haven't danced to this routine since January, I often put on the playlist and listen to the music. My own personal joy expands as I take in the sounds of music that bring YOU joy. In essence, it strengthens and deepens my joy.

Note: For those of you feeling called to support Haiti in earthquake relief, this website is an excellent resource.

So this weekend, let's revisit the Dance of Collective Joy, playlist 1. You can listen here. The playlist (and choreography) was collaboratively created by: Catherine, Gloria, Kate S., Kelly, Krisztina, Marilyn P.,  Naomi, Nicole, Peih, Rebecca, Rhea, Sharon , Tabitha, Zakiya, and me (last minute song added after Karlene's song disappeared from Spotify)

In the spirit of collective co-creation, I want to share with you all the deep wisdom that emerged from the participants of last weekend's ArcanaDance experiential workshop, the Dance of Strength: Exploring Bravery & Courage. Below is their collective wisdom, revelations and reflections from their embodied explorations of dancing with strength, courage and bravery:
  • Releasing an existing boundary can be a threshold to healing and an expression of strength.
  • I can reframe my own fight or flight response to an action of pause and reflect.
  • Withdrawing and offering a gesture of apology are acts of strength and courage.
  • There is power in pausing to make space for a moment of courage.
  • We can retreat from a place of inner strength as an act of courage.
  • Resisting our impulses takes courage.
  • Cultivating courage is an act of self-care.
  • Courage and hope are tethered together. Cultivating courage and allowing it to grow from a seed into something larger in the future nurtures and strengthens feelings of hope.
  • Courage is flying above/rising above the current conditions. Getting distance.
  • You have the power and are the master weaver of your magic to create boundaries and balance for your life. This is courage.
  • Rather than feeling/behaving defended, dance joyfully with death, do it now.
  • As a practice of courage, give yourself a moment to breathe and use all of your senses to center yourself before taking a step/action.
  • You can start over again and again, any time. This is courage.
  • Let the waters soothe your fiery nature.
  • Use the spirals of your energy, your natural mutability as way to be flexibly courageous, but also know when to harness and project sharpness and clarity - cultivate the edge.
  • Courage is engendered and sustained by that which gives us joy.
So many thanks to these wise dancers!

Audio in class:
We noticed some audio glitches in classes over the past couple of weeks and are troubleshooting. We hope sound is restored fully this weekend. Please be patient with us - there are 9 pieces of equipment (excluding the Zoom software platform) that make class possible and we are not sure yet where the glitch(es) may be.

Can't wait to see you all in our virtual space this weekend and next week - as we share and expand joy in community!

Jennifer

Somos Luceros

Our weekend classes are called Somos Luceros.

Somos Luceros is a somatic dance practice designed to illuminate the wisdom of your body and cultivate deep embodiment of archetypal qualities that offer lightness, depth and joy. The dance moves are simple and guided by the language of storytelling, opening new chapters in our bodies where we can see and feel our most luminous potential. Release the stories in your body that weigh you down and reclaim your light. In Spanish, Somos means “we are” and Luceros means “bringers of light” or “bright stars.” This name honors my father, my paternal indigenous ancestors in South America, my heritage, and our collective oldest ancestor, the stars. We are dancing bodies of light.

With immense gratitude for your continued support,
Jennifer

Join us for the Dance of Collective Joy: A Community-Created Movement Experience

The focus of this class is elevating and celebrating joy in community. With all the stressors bubbling up in our lives right now, let’s come together and lighten our energies and spirits, buoyed by collective joy.

Earlier this year we set the collective intention to cultivate joy in 2021. After the unprecedented individual and collective stressors of 2020 (and now 2021), we want to experience and share more joy in our lives and in community. Somos Luceros dancers submitted over 40 songs for our collective joy playlist!

In this class, we will revisit our first of the playlists showcasing 14 of the songs that have evoked joy in our community members lives. The choreography is a blend of movement prompts and sensations of joy described by those who submitted songs and my (Jennifer) creative expression.

Make no mistake, this is a collaborative creation. Somos means “we” and Luceros means “light.” We weave our light (and our joy) together with music, movement and merriment!

The dance moves are simple and guided by the language of storytelling. You are invited to receive the choreography, bring it into your body and make it your own.

Coming Home to Ourselves Dance-Yoga Practice is a somatic dance yoga practice that brings together movement as metaphor and the expanse of yoga with the intent to guide us to deeper embodiment beyond the yoga mat. This practice is about befriending your body and reuniting with it as a sacred beloved and noticing how your mind and body work together to create harmony in your life.

The focus/theme of this Tuesdays class is finding joy as we cultivate strength and stability.

Yoga Sutra 2.46 - Sthira-Sukham Asanam roughly translates to “strive to practice yoga with strength and also in a relaxed manner.” Sthira can be translated as qualities of strength, steadiness, and stability.  Sukha can be translated as joy, comfort(able), happiness, and relaxation.

For the past two weeks we’ve explored cultivating courage by embodying qualities associated with inner strength. For the next two weeks we will cultivate sukha (joy, relaxation and comfort) to deepen our embodiment of strength - strengthening our capacity for stabilizing joy!

This class includes simple yoga postures in dance form (alternating fluid movement and stillness), mindfulness prompts, various meditation practices, the application of mantra, mudras, and the weaving in of the rich and deep yoga philosophy that guides us into deeper levels of self-knowing and unity of mind and body.

Class is 75 minutes. Wear comfortable clothes to move in. Make sure you have a yoga mat or towel. Feel free to also have a blanket or pillow to sit on for the seated portion of class.

We do not do any weight bearing poses in these classes. This practice is truly gentle and I am working towards making yoga accessible. If you would like to see a sample class, simply email me and I will share the link and password with you.

If you are new to the language I have used above to describe class, here are some simple guiding definitions:
  • What is Movement? For this class it is body postures in motion. We will take simple yoga asanas (poses) and embody them through a dance that blends fluidity and stillness.
  • What is Mindfulness? A quality of focused awareness to the present moment and of our sensations that includes our body, mind, and emotions.
  • What is Meditation? Various experiential practices and techniques that support mindfulness and focusing our mind and body.
  • What is Mantra? A sound, word or group of words (such as affirmations) that aid in mindfulness, meditation and focusing the mind and body.
  • What is Mudra? Hand and body gestures that both ground and move energy in the body.
After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the class/meeting.

Here is the info to make a payment of your choice, in exchange for the class experience: I am YTT 300 certified in the Honor Yoga's Roots cohort via Ignite Yoga and Wellness Institute.

Tarot Sessions

I am scheduling sessions from mid September though late-November. I will be taking the month of December off.

If you would like to get on my calendar for anytime between September and November 2021, get on my schedule sooner than later. There's plenty of time to schedule but my calendar does fill pretty quickly!

These sessions are my lifeblood and I so appreciate your continued support in scheduling appointments and referring your loved ones and friends to me. As you know, I don't advertise. All of my client work has been via referral. For that I am immensely grateful.

To schedule a session, choose the session type at www.jenniferluceroearle.com/tarot-with-me/sessions and email me your questionnaire.

Tarot Consultation Packages
There are several tarot packages to choose from, including options for multiple one hour to two hour sessions throughout a one year window.

Huge thanks to Brooke Lowe Johnson for the photo (top) above!

Mary Lenox's Poetry

Thank you, Mary, for sharing this beautiful poem with us after class this past Sunday, August 15

In the Presence of Love

Light of morn
Warm as a gentle sun
Soothes my spirit
Like those green trees reaching for heavenly bliss

Azure blue sky
Clear as a spring mountain lake
Encircles me
In a cocoon of peace

Bird-of-paradise
In brilliant hues of orange, scarlet, blue, yellow, green
Echoes hello
As I walk by

Monarch butterfly
Rides on winds of hope
In flight
Of silent beauty

Salty summer breeze
By the sea
Touching my skin
So tenderly

Lime blue waves at low tide
Cycle to shore
Again, and again
in rhythmic harmony

Gratitude awakens my heart
Revealing
I am never alone
In the presence of love
