Life, on paper, embodied
"Journal writing is a tool arising out of introspection. The journal illuminates the self. And the individual self illuminates the collective self. As we heal the self we begin to heal the whole." - Christina Baldwin

You may not believe this but I was a painfully shy child. There were times I was marked "absent" because I didn't speak up and say "here." If someone asked me about my thoughts or feelings, especially an authority figure or stranger, I felt paralyzed and no words would come out of my mouth. I was incredibly sensitive and imaginative. The only way I could get the words out was to write and so I journaled. I've been journaling as long as I learned to write. My journal was my closest and dearest friend and confidant.

I was eleven years old when I was given my first tarot deck. By that time, I was a journaling "pro" (ha! such a wise child). The cards fast became my new best friend. I used them to find visual matches for what I was feeling. I used them for storytelling. I tested out divination and tried to use them to tell my future. Then I introduced the cards to my journal and my ability to know myself deepened and widened. Through the cards, I learned to ask myself questions that my tween mind could never conjure on its own. Journaling with the cards allowed me to dream and visualize a future for myself - one filled with adventure, learning new skills, meeting people, and living my "calling" - whatever that was. At the time, until I was in college, I was convinced I was going to be a writer. It was the only way I could avoid speaking!

It's been 30 years. I speak up now. I still journal every single day. I still use tarot cards to inspire a dialogue between my scared self and my bold self. Recently, I worked with a few tarot clients on initiating a journaling practice using tarot cards. It inspired me to share my personal practice more broadly. And so it is I am excited to introduce my first Tarot Journaling workshop! The workshop will introduce you to personal journaling, combining journaling with tarot and then bringing these tarot voices to life through movement. For this session, we will be guided by The Fool, the archetype of the seeker. I hope you can join us! For more information, see below.
