My work is loving the world.

Here the sunflowers, there the hummingbird—

          equal seekers of sweetness.
Here the quickening yeast; there the blue plums.
Here the clam deep in the speckled sand.

Are my boots old? Is my coat torn?

Am I no longer young, and still not half-perfect? Let me
keep my mind on what matters,

which is my work,

which is mostly standing still and learning to be

The phoebe, the delphinium.

The sheep in the pasture, and the pasture.

Which is mostly rejoicing, since all the ingredients are here,

which is gratitude, to be given a mind and a heart

          and these body-clothes,

a mouth with which to give shouts of joy

to the moth and the wren, to the sleepy dug-up clam,

telling them all, over and over, how it is

          that we live forever.

Above are two photo collages of the gorgeous Embody Movement Studio in Centralia, WA. If you find yourself traveling between Seattle and Portland, go visit and dance at Embody! Christina Wolf, owner of Embody, has cultivated such a special environment rooted in connection, community, beauty and joy. I am truly so excited to collaborate with Christina on future classes and workshops.

In this week where we collectively share our gratitude for all we hold dear, I am doubly grateful to have spent two days sharing the work of my heart, ArcanaDance and Nia, at Embody in Centralia. The High Priestess archetype was fully present, inviting us all to come into deeper relationship with our intuition, inner knowing and truth. I am thrilled to announce that I will be returning to Embody on Friday, February 10, 2017 to introduce the Magician, the archetype of the Visionary!

I have always loved the poetry of Mary Oliver. The poem above always reminds me of the power of the practice of gratitude. It's the poem I turn to when I am feeling sorry for myself and need the reminder that I have everything I need and more and that I can choose to experience wonder, awe, and joy. During one of the retreats I helped co-facilitate in California this month, I was walking along doing a movement meditation when I felt a hummingbird brush the back of my head. I followed it down the path as it appeared to simultaneously sing to and nuzzle flowers. It made me smile. One thing I know for sure, we need more joy and gratitude-filled hearts in this world, especially during these times.

On this Thanksgiving, I am deeply thankful for each of you - for knowing you, for learning from you, for having the privilege to serve as your teacher and guide and for delighting in this life together. May we have many occasions to squeal in delight on the dance floor in the weeks ahead.

Speaking of squealing in delight, I can think of no one I squeal more loudly with than my mentor/mother/sister/friend/soulmate, Susan Tate. I am purposely ignoring the fact that she's leaving us for Virginia on December 1st and instead focusing on the joy of co-teaching with her this Thanksgiving morning. Please join us for a Nia class where we will dance our gratitude - Thursday, November 24, at 9:30am at Embrace the Moon in Ballard, $15 drop-in or class card with me. I am not planning to say goodbye to Susan. I am certain I am going to fold myself neatly into her suitcase and pop out at the airport insisting that she stay! If you'd like to join me in this evil plot, send me an email ;).
