I returned from the Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health in Stockbridge, Massachusetts just
a week ago. Kripalu was breathtaking and deeply restorative. I woke up everyday at 5:45am to do sunrise yoga, I took mid-day yoga dance classes and ended the day with restorative yoga classes. In between, I meditated, read, rested, and took some free workshops available to retreat participants. I learned to chant and sing in sanskrit (which was hilarious and so much fun for me!), took a class on meditative running, did a walking meditation at a labyrinth and got to spend one day visiting with my brother, his wife and my nephews. They came to visit on the 13th anniversary of my father's death. We wrote a card for my father, including my nephews who were born after he passed, and we placed it on an altar in the center of the labyrinth.
It was a tender and beautiful ritual and I am so glad we were together that day.
I am writing this newsletter as I once again pack my bags for another four-day retreat. This time I am headed to Aldermarsh Center on Whidbey Island for a four-day Gaian Soul Retreat
with my beloved tarot mentor, Joanna Powell Colbert. We will spend four days out in nature centered on theme of "Harvesting our Dreams." I get the great pleasure of picking up two Latina sisters up from the airport who are coming to the retreat from my home town in New York City. I am so excited to spend time with them and the other 18 women at the retreat. These retreats have been such an important part of my commitment to self-care and self-love and ensuring my alignment for future goals and dreams.
After this retreat, I leave for my Nia Black Belt training
in Portland on September 19th. The focus of Black Belt is Unlimited Creativity. I don't know what to expect but as I mentioned in my last newsletter, I am about to enter my "Emperor" decade where the focus is on building a more sound and supportive structure to build my future. My right brain self will happily draw from unlimited creativity and "of of the box" thinking to build this new foundation.
While I am away, newly minted Brown Belt Shea Marsh
will cover both of my Sunday morning Nia classes. You will have so much fun with her! I will be back from my Black Belt training on September 26 and ready to step in and lead my first class as a Black Belt on Sunday morning, September 27th at 10:30am at Balance Studio in Fremont. I hope you will join me :).
Then, get ready for October. I turn 40 and I am celebrating all month with my favorite Nia playlists and
favorite tunes from the four decades of my life. With the "unlimited creativity" of Black Belt, who knows what I'll put together to share. Squeal! That me and my brother in the photo. I wanted his Star Wars dolls. Don't worry, I don't remember the "Wookie" dance we came up with as kids so I promise not to introduce it in class.
Below you will see an announcement about the new four-week ArcanaDance series starting in October. I am looking to add another weekday Nia class to my schedule in October-November. Stay tuned!
ArcanaDance: The Dance of the Emperor
Thursdays at 7:00pm in Ballard and Sundays at 9:00am in Fremont
For this 4-week series, we will delve into the fourth card of the major arcana in a tarot deck; the Emperor. The Emperor is the archetype of the masculine leadership. He represents authority and “father figures.” The Emperor invites us to apply logic, reason and strategic thought to build a strong and stable foundation for the empire of our lives.
Thursdays, 7:00pm – 8:20pm
Dates for the 4-week series: October 8, 15, 22 and 29, 2015
Location: Embrace the Moon (Ballard), 1716 NW Market, Seattle, WA 98107
Cost: $15 drop-in or $55 for the series
Sundays, 9:00am – 10:20am
Dates for the 4-week series: October 4, 11, 18 and 25, 2015
Location: Balance Studio in Fremont, 418 N. 35th St, Seattle, WA 98103
Cost: $15 drop-in or $55 for the series
Each week we will explore, through dance, how the archetypal energy of the Emperor influences our ability to step into a leadership role in all four realms of our lives. We will have the opportunity to sense where we need to strengthen our mind, body, heart and soul in order to exert the personal power, authority and control needed to become the ultimate architect of our lives.
This is a wonderful archetype to explore if you want to invoke greater discipline and strategy in your work or with a creative project, or if you are ready to put necessary boundaries in place towards healthier living. Imagine what can emerge for you from giving yourself the gift of four weeks to explore your capacity to build and lead!
