Graduating to a New Pattern

"Raven, teach me to ride the winds of change.
Perch where the wind comes at you full force.
Let it blow you apart till your feathers fly off
      and you look like hell.
            Then abandon yourself.
The wind is not your enemy.
Nothing in life is.

Go where the wind takes you
higher, lower, backwards.
The wind to carry you forward will find you
When you are ready.
When you can bear it."

This past weekend a group of us gathered to Dance with Change. We learned about the Wheel of Fortune tarot card, the archetype of change, through conversation, mindfulness practices and movement. The Wheel of Fortune invites us to look at how we experience change, the patterns underlying our resistance or acceptance of change and ways we can stay centered throughout. Each of us had revelations. One of my favorites was the following: "What would my life look like if I graduated from my 'change' pattern completely? What if I trusted in a new reality? What would it bring?"

Fast forward just under 24 hours and I was sitting at the Center for Spiritual Living listening to Deepak Chopra talk about the foundation of his newest book, "You are the Universe." My biggest takeaway from his talk was that "reality is a mental construct." So what if we expanded our idea of our current reality and our potential? If I wasn't so attached to old stories, what new story might emerge? The thought felt freeing and brought me back to the concept of graduating from old patterns. Dancing with Change is ultimately about the power of choice and releasing the grip of control and familiarity.

ArcanaDance, even though it's my own creation, has taught me how to work more consciously with archetypal energies so that I can actually graduate from old patterns. With every archetype explored I cast a light on yet another shadow. It's not the cognitive learning but rather the integration of knowledge, memory, emotion and simple movement we do that, I feel, effects a long-term change. If it's true that your "issues are in your tissues" then why can't we plant new uplifting and expansive patterns in our tissues? That was my "aha" on graduating to a new pattern. Liziah Richards - thank you for catalyzing a new pattern with your insights on change!

Through the Empress, we tap into a bottomless wellspring of love. She is our doorway to becoming our own vital source of sustenance, self-care and nourishment.

If tarot cards could dance, this is what they’d look like! Coming to this introductory ArcanaDance workshop will allow you to:
  • Discover your baseline of self-love.

I am thrilled to announce that I will be teaching daily morning Nia classes, two ArcanaDance workshops and offering a limited number of tarot readings at Camp Souldust. The theme is "Magic in the Woods."

Camp SoulDust is a 4 day, 3 night camp that combines the abandoned joy of traditional summer camp goodness with exploration of subjects like chakras, spiritual yoga, breath work, animal totems and so much more. I am looking forward to dancing with you all in the week ahead! Starting on Sunday, we spend a week with the Nia routine Oshun. Like Deep Dive, Oshun is an exploration of fluidity but with a more explosive and dynamic energy. If Deep Dive was a smooth and gentle day at the beach, Oshun is a stormy and powerful ocean ready to take us for the ride of our lives.

Nia on Thursday, March 2 at 6:00pm at Embrace the Moon (Ballard)
Nia on Sunday, March 5 at 10:30am at Balance Studio (Fremont)
