LATITUDES & STORIES OF WAR

mataji booker music ANNIVERSARY ISSUE

It's hard to believe it was 2 years ago next month that I recorded my first album 'Latitudes'  in Nashville. Though I'm gearing up to record my second recording project this year - Brother Dear: Stories of War,  A girl never forgets her very first time!

Here's a short mash up I made of my experience recording over five incredible days.
Recording Latitudes
Thanks to many of you,  I raised funds on Kickstarter to make this dream happen. After things fell through with the original producer, a friend put me in touch with Brian Irwin, whom had just moved to Tennessee. He was willing to do it within my budget and had musicians there happy to play as well!

I was nervous, excited and open for anything though I didn't know what to expect. We had a well laid out plan to be completed in just five days. It was so amazing to wake up and go into the studio, break for lunch and dinner and then bed; wake up the next day and do it again. Though I went into record an acoustic album, I came back with a fully produced, multi-instrumental gem created by the talented musician/producer Brian Irwin (
Monster Studios).

Though the physical album has been out of stock for over a year now, I've decided to order another run of CD's next month. So I'm happy to announce that CD's will be available soon for purchase at my shows and on my website, as well as the digital album available now on amazon, itunes and Cd baby.

I'm so thankful to the backers on Kickstarter, the musicians, executive producer George Molina and producer Brian Irwin whom made this dream possible two years ago.

OTHER NEWS

Brother Dear Project: STORIES OF WAR

I'm finally letting the cat out of the bag as I introduce to you plans in the works for my next and first full length feature album, 'Brother Dear'.  Brother Dear is a collection of songs written over the last 15 years which bring light to various perspectives and voices of war.

Each song will be accompanied by a music video, so the entire album will be accompanied by a video album slash narrative. (Think Jesus Christ Superstar or Janet Jackson's Rhythm Nation). It's an ambitious project that has been brewing since 2000, so I'm excited to announce that I'm in the planning stages of the 'film' synopsis which is set in 2015 and the magnificent era of World War II. The overall intention of the project, from album to stage, is to use this multi-media platform to bring awareness to the war and conflicts happening around the world today, 75 years after the end of the War.

To give you a taste, this is a spec video I created for one of the tunes, 'No One Without You'. It's one of the first song's I wrote specifically for this project - it's about two people in love, separated by war, and the connection they share, in life and in death.

I shot this film on a 35 mil digital camera and edited it in imovie after we recorded the song in my friends living room 2009. I can't wait to re-record this song with a piano and violin this year!
