Dear <<Title>> <<Last Name>>,
As the new Chair for 2018 – 19, it is my pleasure to highlight progress that the International Network for Nuclear Security Training and Support Centres (NSSC Network) has made toward achieving major objectives since the first issue of this Newsletter was published in February 2018.
The 2018 NSSC Network Annual Meeting, hosted by Japan 5 – 9 March, provided members with another opportunity to visit a mature Nuclear Security Support Centre (NSSC) in Japan and benefit from its experience. I am happy to report that a revised Terms of Reference (TOR) for the NSSC Network was adopted in April, based on productive discussions at the Annual Meeting. This is an important milestone, as the new TOR sets forth an improved strategic roadmap and clearer goals for the Network in the months and years to come.
In support of a key initiative led by Working Group B (Best Practices), the Secretariat hosted the fourth meeting on the revision of IAEA TECDOC 1734: Establishing a National Nuclear Security Support Centre, from 9 - 11 July. TECDOC 1734 is the only IAEA publication providing specific recommendations on NSSCs, and we look forward to completing the revision* next year as an enhanced resource for states. Coming up, the NSSC Network leadership will meet in September to track progress in implementing Working Group Action Plans* and begin planning for the 2019 Annual Meeting.
Lastly, I would like to thank all contributors to this issue, especially the leadership of Working Group C (Information Sharing, Promotion, and Outreach) and the IAEA Secretariat for their ongoing cooperation and support for development of our Newsletter. The next issue is expected in Spring 2019 (here).
