Issue # 27

From the President

Well it was a disappointing weekend as far as finals go for the senior teams. Our over 60’s, over 40’s, Metro 2 and Prov 3 teams all going down in close games, with results often decided by a single goal in overtime or penalty strokes. It was not all doom and gloom though with the 60’s, 40’s and metro 2 teams all taking home a pennant for finishing on top of the ladder at the end of the home and away season.
Our Promotion 1 women also had a loss in their preliminary final however their top spot finish has ensured their promotion to Premier 1 grade in 2020. The Promotion 2 team continued their winning form and will progress to the grand final next weekend. The over 35 women’s team are also playing in the grand final this Wednesday night for the Rae Blunt pennant. Good luck to these teams.
The Prov 4 team had a good win on Sunday, but was slightly soured with a nasty wrist injury to the team’s leading goal scorer Matt Moore-Crouch. Get well soon Matt.
Looking through the results over the weekend I can see a few of the junior teams will also be playing in grand finals this weekend. The J9/10A boys booked their grand final spot with a crushing 9-1 win. Not to be outdone, the J9/10A girls and J9/10A promotion boys also booked their spots into a grand final.
A big congratulations to Tyler Lovell and Marshall Roberts who have been selected into the Thundersticks team in the Australian Hockey League competition. The AHL series starts in September and tickets are available through Ticketek.
There are only a few tickets left to the seniors wind up. Once these tickets are sold there will be no more, and you cannot just turn up on the night. Please book your tickets ASAP. Information is below on how to book.

Good luck to everyone playing this weekend.

YMCC President

On Saturday night whilst the post grand final event was happening at the club, an incident was unfolding out on the grounds. One of our Juniors sustained what initially appeared to be a very serious neck injury. An ambulance was called & this arrived a very long 45 minutes later.

For all of this period two of our younger seniors chatted to, & occupied Owen as he lay on the ground. It was a truly amazing effort!! Special thanks to Tim Masarei & Courtney Caddy for this feat & their compassion.

Thanks to Daniel & Patrick Sims, & Jamie Dale who also helped out. Fortunately Owen has made a full recovery, much to the relief of his family & everyone involved.

Club News

Our first senior premiership of the season went to the Mens Prov 4 team who secured a 6-2 victory over Mods. This team has had a great season finishing top of the ladder with 17 wins from 18 matches with a handy +67 goal difference.

There were celebrations for our senior teams back of Perry Lakes on Saturday night after a big day of finals games. All grand finals were tight tussles with 3 of the 5 matches going to extra time or strokes.

The Fill the Hill campaign was a great success for the Prov 3 "turf crabs" who had a massive crowd at whitfords on Saturday. The premier mens squad joined the very loud crowd following their 2019 medal count.

Grand final results

  • Provisional 3 men: 1-1 full time, going down 5-4 in strokes
  • Provisional 4 men: 6-2 victory
  • Metro 2 women: 1-1 full time, going down 2-1 in golden goal extra time
  • Over 40 Div 1 men: 1-1 full time, going down 2-1 in golden goal extra time
  • Over 60 Div 1 men: 0-1 at full time
