Issue # 28

From the President

Congratulations to our Grand Final winners from the weekend. Great wins to our Promotion 2 women, J9/10A boys, J9/10A Promotion boys and J7/8A girls. Commiserations to the J9/10A girls who went down in a very close game.

It was a great weekend for the Junior Wind Up on Sunday. Congratulations to the J9/10A Promotion boys team who topped off their grand final win with being crowned Champion Junior team. Congratulations to all the YIPs participants who were recognised on the day for their off-field support of the club. This is a great program which was created by YMCC and recognises and rewards off-field participation, coaching, umpiring and volunteering. A huge thank you to the Junior Committee who co-ordinate this day. Thank you to all the parents and players who made it such an enjoyable day for all.

The Senior Wind Up on Friday 11th October is now SOLD OUT. There are no further tickets available. I am looking forward to seeing many of you there on the night.

As this will be the last weekly Sportsman for the year I would like to take the opportunity to thank a few key people. Kennia Lotter who has edited the Sportsman each week. Di, Lisa, Sherryn and the rest of the bar and canteen volunteers who are the heart and soul of our club. The YMCC board, all the coaches, managers, volunteers and spectators who make this such a great club. This will also be my last year as President of YMCC. After 5 years in the role it is time for someone else to take the reins. In the last 5 years our club has continued to grow and evolve. In that time we have adopted a new logo, a new uniform, created a strong financial position and have almost doubled our playing numbers. The Club AGM will be held later this year and I would encourage people to attend and vote on the 2020 board appointees

Paul Hough
YMCC President

Club News

Well done to everyone for getting through another long but fun hockey season.

Congratulations to all the YM teams who played grand finals this week. It was a great weekend for YMCC.. we won 4 from 6 grand finals to bring a few more flags back to hang in Perry Lakes.

The Promotion 2 women lead from the from in  Friday nights grand final, in front of a massive crowd of supporters. It was a cold night so the girls definitely appreciated the cheers from the sideline. Zali Spencer got the girls off to the start they needed , easily getting a goal from a penalty stroke... would have been awkward if she missed since she needed to swap sticks to her 'stroke stick'. Soaks equalised but the YM girls had a strong second half scoring 2 more goals to come away with a dominant 3-1 win. A well deserved effort after the dominant season the team had.

Our junior teams kept the YMCC colours on display during Grand Final Saturday with 4 teams in action. I hear there was hot competition for support during the J7/8A girls game and the J9/10A boys... with many supporter running between PHS 1 and 2 chasing the cheers from the crowd.

Our junior sides were dominant across all grades this season and we can't wait to see what the future at YMCC holds for our young superstars.

Grand final results

  • Promotion 2 women v Uni Associates- YMCC win 3-1
  • J7/8A Girls v Lions - YMCC win 2-0
  • J9/10A Promotion Boys v Melville - YMCC win 3-1
  • J9/10A Boys v Wasps - YMCC win 2-1
