Raider Foundation Comes to the Big Apple

On May 10th, the Marine Raider Foundation hosted the 2018 NYC Salute to Raiders, marking the Foundation’s debut in New York City.  The Foundation’s East Coast Ambassadors, led by Kathryn Tappen, created a memorable and impactful evening for all in attendance.  Foundation Board Member Peter Vermette helped to secure an amazing venue in the historic New York Athletic Club, and our Ambassador team curated some truly wonderful items for our live and silent auction.  Kathryn Tappen graciously agreed to emcee the evening that featured remarks by Tyler Ford, brother of Captain Stanford Shaw, and Derek Herrera, Foundation Board President, and Guest Speaker Doug Flutie, who shared stories about his father-in-law’s WWII service, as well as his impressive career in football and philanthropic spirit.  Thanks to the generosity of our guests, over $70,000 was raised to help support Raiders and their families!

2nd Annual Rucking for Raiders Steps Up & Raises over $14K!

Auburn University NROTC Midshipmen, Marines and Sailors joined forces to honor MARSOC's 43 fallen heroes in the 2nd Annual Rucking for Raiders event, a 209-mile ruck from Auburn, Alabama to Navarre, Florida, where they finished at the Blackhawk 11 Memorial honoring the Raider 7, Captain Stanford Shaw III, Master Sergeant Thomas Saunders, Staff Sergeant Marcus Bawol, Staff Sergeant Trevor Blaylock, Staff Sergeant Liam Flynn, Staff Sergeant Kerry Kemp, and Staff Sergeant Andrew Seif, along with 4 Army National Guardsmen.  Daniel Campbell, founder and coordinator of the yearly event, served overseas with the men of Marine Special Operations Team 8231 and felt compelled to honor MARSOC's heroes and their families.  The 4-day trek had 3 teams of 15 ruckers rotate every 7.5 miles, allowing for a bit of rest and repair along the way, although rest was usually roadside minus the creature comforts of home.  The outpouring of support from donors, sponsors and spectators along the route was tremendous and kept the ruckers motivated from the time they left Auburn to well beyond their final steps in Navarre.  Way to go, Ruckers!

Charity Partner Team Laces Up to #Run4Raiders at Marine Corps Marathon
The Marine Raider Foundation hosted its 6th Marine Corps Marathon and 10K Charity Partner Team in Washington, DC on October 27th for a team celebration highlighting the team’s fundraising and training success.  We had 48 amazing individuals commit to #Run4Raiders in the 10K and Marine Corps Marathon, raising a total of $120,000 in their efforts!  The team dinner recognized Kelli Salter for her “Unconquerable Spirit” with the Spiritus Invictus Award.  Kelli started fundraising in late 2017 and put together a local golf tournament that had to be rescheduled twice due to bad weather.  6-time team member Frank Costello received the Top Fundraiser Award for his $51,000 that came in as a result of the Seaside Semper Five 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run that he planned and executed as a part of his fundraising campaign.  Frank’s 80th birthday wish was to run the Marathon with his children and that wish came true with his kids running alongside him on race day.  We are so proud of our team!  Photo credit: Art Trends LLC
