Not only may the leprechaun be at the end of the rainbow, holding a pot of gold, one need look no further than OTW'S March Kids' Shows. Three of our Kids' classes will be on stage to perform for their families and friends this March. We are so proud of what our kids have done! Mckenzie Forrest teaches these groups and she is gifted at teaching and guiding children. We are very blessed to have her on staff, and she was a part of much of the OTW KIDS' PROGRAM, when she was a young girl. She has acted and danced for us on stage many times as a performer, and now she lends her talents to the teaching of our students.
First up is the Pre-K/Kindergarten Class who will be presenting on Tuesday, March 24th, at 6:00 pm. Our youngest kids are starting to learn the basics of theatre, music and dance, and will treat the audience to solo and group performances. Some of the songs one expects to hear are group melodies of 'B-I-N-G-O," "Old MacDonald had a Farm," and "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes." Solos will include "Let It Go," and "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands." Cooperation and group support are a vital part of what OTW teaches - we try to let every light shine! There is no single star. Everyone works together to achieve the best result, and it does not hurt that every single one of these little ones is bright and so very cute!
Wednesday, March 25th, at 6:00 pm will be a very exciting and special musical production of A MIDSUMMER' NIGHT'S DREAM by William Shakespeare. Speaking of the Bard, he is a part of the show! Clever songs and dances will delight the crowd. These kids have had large parts to learn, and they and their families are to be credited by their involvement and commitment to the learning process of the KIds' Program. With so much internet available, many recitation pieces and memorization have gone the way of the wind. Certainly facts are still memorized for exams, but this is for the sheer joy of putting on a show.
Our "Granny Awards Performance" will be held on both Thursday. March 26, and Friday, March 27. at 6:00 pm. This is a combination of the 1-2 Grade Class and the 3-5 Grade Class. We ask that the audience members pick a night to attend. The "Granny Award Performance" is a very sweet review that deals with the retirement of the Granny from the fairy tale, "Little Red Riding Hood." Not to be missed is the Wolf and also our sweet 1-2 Graders portraying the Snow White's dwarfs. Expect many fairy tales heroes and heroines and come prepared to clap, clap, clap!
The Performance Class of OTW periodically entertains at functions at local nursing homes and other events. There will be a formal performance for the public toward the summer months by this gifted group of students. Be watching our Website and future newsletters for information.
GRACE VENTURA AND RUTH SCORDO
A favorite event, "Poetry Out Loud" was conducted by OHS English Department in December. The top two finalists, Grace Ventura and Ruth Scordo, competed in the Regional Level at SUNY Brockport as a part of the Finger Lakes Region. They comported themselves very well, and though they did not move onto the next level, we are so proud of Grace and Ruth as they are long-time participants in the OTW Kids' Program. They did themselves proud! Ladies, take a well-deserved bow as this is no small achievement! We are just delighted to claim you as OTW'S! Thank you to the parents for sharing these great young women. Not only talented, but as this writer likes to say, "very well-raised!"
WAIT UNTIL JUNE !!!!
A favorite on our stage by the High School Class is GODSPELL, JR. This class is in rehearsal now for this exciting and moving musical.
CALLING ALL THESPIANS Auditions for Final Production
of the Season WITNESS FOR THE PROSECUTION by Agatha Christie.
Auditions will be on Tuesday, March 10th, and Wednesday, March 11th at 7:00 pm at OTW. The cast consists of 9 men and 4 women, with perhaps more women at the discretion of the director. It will be a cold reading from the script. Maria Welka, beloved and well-known for her talent on the stage, is using this play as her directing debut. There are always places for non-actors to participate - costume and makeup will be very much a part of this show. This could be a very fun avenue for someone not quite ready to step on stage. We hope to see you at one of the auditions.
More will be written as the event draws near in May,
