AUDITIONS FOR MOONLIGHT AND MAGNOLIAS

Auditions for the first production of the Olean Theatre Workshop 2019-2020 season, “Moonlight and Magnolias,” will be held at 7 pm Tuesday, Aug. 27, and Wednesday, Aug. 28, at the Workshop on Washington Street. The play has a cast of four, comprised of three men and one woman.

The play centers on the famous film, “Gone With the Wind” by Margaret Mitchell, and tells a humorous tale of the problems involved with writing the script. The male roles are Ben Hecht, screenwriter; Victor Fleming, director; and David O. Selznick, producer. The female role is Miss Poppenghul, secretary to Selznick. The audition will consist of a cold reading from the script, and the play is being directed by Kelly Welch Vacarro.

Please plan on auditioning, regardless of your experience with acting. For more information, please look at OTW's Facebook page for more details on each character.

2019-2020 Season of Olean Theatre Workshop

We at OTW are delighted and proud to announce our coming season. The two plays of 2019 are new to the theatre world and the two for 2020 are traditional theatre of years gone by. It promises to be one of our best seasons ever.

First up is “Moonlight and Magnolias” by Ron Hutchinson, and will be staged at the Workshop Thursday, Oct. 3, through Sunday, Oct. 6. This delightful comedy tells some of the issues and problems of getting the famous novel, “Gone With the Wind,” to the silver screen. The audience will learn of the Golden Age of Hollywood and just have a good time laughing at familiar scenes from the movie.

Our second production is “The Humans” by Stephen Karam and is centered near Thanksgiving at the Blake family apartment in Manhattan. This one act play touches on current topics of illness, aging and financial issues. It received the Tony Award in 2016 for Best Play. Poignant and cutting, it is a play that many families can feel a kindred spirit.  This will be presented at OTW Thursday, Nov. 21 through Sunday, Nov. 24.

The New Year of 2020 brings to the stage “The Matchmaker” by Thornton Wilder. The famous and beloved musical “Hello Dolly” was based on this play. It is about the matchmaker, Dolly Levi, who likes to arrange things. This play will be mounted at OTW Thursday, Feb. 6, through Sunday, Feb. 9. It will add some levity to the cold of winter.

The last production of the season is Agatha Christie's “Witness for the Prosecution,” based on Christie's own short story of the same name. It is a courtroom drama involving the murder of an older, wealthy woman by a younger man. As with anything Christie, the story will leave one guessing until the very end. This will be presented Thursday, May 7, through Sunday, May 10, and will indeed be the talk of the town.

As always, we at OTW encourage people to have a season ticket. One is guaranteed a seat for the performance of one's choice, and if a change of night needs to be made, we do our very best to accommodate our audience member. There are two levels of the Season Tickets - Spotlighter and regular. There are Student/Senior Season tickets available for a discounted price. As always, individual tickets are available as the performance nears. Please refer to our Website online and purchase your Season Tickets now. See you at the shows.
