#GivingTuesdayNow Set
For May 5

HELP US HELP

THE OLEAN FOOD PANTRY

We here at The Olean Theatre Workshop know firsthand how difficult these uncertain times are for non-profits. May 5th, 2020 is #GivingTuesdayNow: a global day of giving and unity organized as an emergency response to the unprecedented need caused by COVID-19. The day is designed to drive an influx of generosity for nonprofits like The Olean Food Pantry. On this day, we are asking you to help us help them by donating to their organization. The Olean Food Pantry is needed now more than ever while people are struggling to stay afloat during the COVID-19 crisis. During this tough time, The Olean Food Pantry is giving out food to anyone who needs it. There is no longer an application process to receive services from them.
While answering the call to action now, we at The Olean Theatre Workshop are also looking towards the future. COVID-19 put both Witness for the Prosecution and Godspell on hold, but we are looking into dates this summer to bring both of these extraordinary shows to our stage. Keep your eye out for dates and ways to get involved. After two months of social distancing, and a major pause in our season, we know that entertainment and a sense of community are needed more now, than ever before. Help us help our community by supporting these two productions. Trust me, they’re worth the wait. We’ll see you at the show!
Olean Theatre Workshop Kids Received Honors
BUT due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the uncertainty when public and social gatherings will be safe to resume, the New York State Education Department has decided that the New York State Summer School of the Arts will suspend programming for the 2020 summer season.
Three students from OTW Kids made it into the New York State Summer School for the Arts only to find out that the activities were canceled. We would like to celebrate these students from the Olean Theatre Workshop for having been selected to participate in these programs.

Cait Butler  School of Theatre Professional Theatre at  SUNY DELHI

She would have been housed and attended classes at SUNY Delhi. Cait would have worked with professional theatre companies which have included in the past, The Acting Company, The Circle Repertory Theater Company, and The Circle East Theater Company of New York City. She would have been  offered a well-developed course curriculum as well as an incredible theater experience. Included in the program are field trips to shows in New York City.

Aidan Heaney Was Also Honored

She was allowed to re-audition as an alumni of the school of theatre for an advanced, highly individualized version of the the theatre  program as part of NYSSSA’s 50th anniversary.  Aidan said "It was such a meaningful experience for me last summer, and I was very excited and honored to be chosen to come back again."  And while she is sad the program will not take place in its usual format, she is hoping to be able to take part in an online version this summer.

Ruth Scordo School of Choral Studies at SUNY Fredonia

Ruth would have experienced a summer full of the joy of singing, the thrill of performing, and the power of choral music led by a nationally acclaimed choral  faculty during four weeks of intensive vocal and musical instruction at the School of Choral Studies.  She would have studied private voice with daily instruction in choral singing  and would have had the opportunity to participate in musical theater and opera scenes, stagecraft and movement, small ensembles, and voice recitals.

Our AmeriCorp Member, Olean High School Junior, Lydia Brant And Her Mother, Registered Nurse, Emily Brant

During their time at home mom and daughter, Registered Nurse Emily Brant and Olean High Junior Lydia Brant, are sewing face masks from scratch! Pumping out about 20 masks a day, they give them all away for free at the Olean Medical Group, Eden Heights Assisted Living home, and to friends and family in need.
OTW would like to thank the following
organizations for their support:

The Tri-County Arts Council
Give for Greatness and Arts Services Initiative
New York Gives through The Cattaraugus Region Community Foundation
The Cattaraugus County Youth Bureau

It is thanks to organizations like these, that we have been able to provide this community with family theater for over 37 years.
