The days are longer and the sun is rising as we practice.
The Retreat Calendar is full for next few months with Peter Thomson early September, Pixie Lillas at the end of September, Melodie Batchelor mid November and Suzi Carson early December. These Retreats are a wonderful opportunity for teachers and students to get together from all over New Zealand to share a Yoga experience.
This year's AGM was well attended and very fruitful. Held at Herne Bay Iyengar Yoga Centre on July 31st attendees enjoyed a group practice and catered lunch. A robust meeting then took place where it was decided that money would be spent on branding and spreading the word of Iyengar Yoga throughout New Zealand. A PR committee has been set up to organise this, we thank Joy Sanders, teachers from North Shore Iyengar Yoga Centre and supporters for this exciting role.
Jawahar Bangera will be our guest teacher for 2017 IYANZ Yoga Convention. Put the weekend of 21st April in your calendar. The venue will be Bayfield Primary School in Herne Bay, Auckland.
Jawahar was the Founder of the Iyengar Yoga Institute in Mumbai, his teaching is authentic, carrying the lineage of Iyengar Yoga with depth and understanding. Look in the Upcoming Events.

Note from The Editor
Our next issue of the Yoga Link will be a printed edition and is due out in early December. Rosie Percival, a member of our IYANZ community is assisting us in the redesign of the Link to produce a high quality magazine which will not only be distributed to the IYANZ community but made available to a wider audience as a means to promote the Iyengar method of yoga in New Zealand. We would like your contributions as soon as possible so that we can meet our design & printing deadlines. We are looking for interesting articles, student interviews, teacher profiles, reports of Pune visits and workshop reviews. High quality colour photographs to accompany text will be appreciated. Jawahar Bangera has been BKS Iyengar's pupil since 1969, and was one of the first pupils from Mumbai tasked by Guruji to teach yoga. Jawahar accompanied Guruji on countless teaching tours around the world and has conducted a large number of yoga workshops himself in various countries including NZ in 2010.

Introductory Assessment Report June 2016
The Introductory Assessment for Certification took place the 24th & 25th June at IYC, Auckland. Assessors were Susie Lever, Cornelia Regnier and Louisa Potter. The moderator was Monica Haar.

Assessment Dates 2017
The A&TT Committee is pleased to announce the planned assessment dates for 2017.
Introductory Assessment: 23 – 25 June or 30 June – 2 July
(Please keep both weekends free)
Junior Intermediate III: May (date dependent on Australian assessors)
Junior Intermediate I & II: 27 – 29 October or 3 – 5 November
(Please keep both weekends free)
All applications are to be received by the Assessment Coordinator during February 2017 with final due date of 28 February 2017.
Application forms are available from the IYANZ website only (no longer available from the Assessment Coordinator).

The Referral Form for Junior Intermediate Level 1 & 2 has been re-instated
The referral form for Junior Intermediate Level 1 & 2 has been re-instated. The referral form needs to be signed by a senior teacher, two levels above the level you are applying for.
During the year before applying to sit assessment, you should have worked with a Senior Teacher, on a minimum of ten occasions, by attending classes of a suitable level and/or attending workshops with the senior teacher who will sign the referral form if she/he sees fit.
The referral form is available from the Teacher Training Manual (version Sept 2016) on the IYANZ website or from the Assessment Coordinator.
