From the Chair
I hope this issue of the Yoga Link finds you well, prospering and keeping warm with lots of practice!
Auckland and Christchurch have recently hosted Manouso Manos as our guest teacher for this year's Iyengar Yoga Convention. Manouso taught in New Zealand for the first time and the participants at both centres were enthralled by the accuracy, intelligence and maturity of his teaching.  Students came from Australia to attend our convention and many from NZ attended both weekend workshops.  Manouso responded to the students in front of him and helped neck, shoulder, back, hip and knee problems by adapting the technique used in each asana for these conditions.
A big thank you to the Events committee for this year's convention -  Roger Brown, Anna Timms, Jyoteeka Cummings, Eira Kramer, Tessa Meek, Clare Davenport, Michelle Polglase, Ella James and Sally Mekalik, Kate Coull, Colleen Adamson, Laurie Silver, Hollie Tang and  Tilak Raj.  A special thanks for the ferns and beautiful stage setting by Paul Michael.  A big thank you also to Heidi Napflin for book sales and Glenn McBeth and Tamar Munch for door sales.
Manouso will teach in Bellur, Guruji's birth place, in December 2016. There is an enrolment form circulating and on the IYANZ website for interested students. The fees for the Bellur workshop are being donated back to the Bellur trust. Information is provided on the enrolment form on the website.

Next year the guest teacher for the IYANZ Yoga Convention will be Jawahar Bangera. The suggested dates are April 21st to 23rd  2017.  We look forward to the return of Jawahar who taught in New Zealand in 2010.

Manouso teaching Sirsasana
With over 70 attendees at the Christchurch workshop, it was exciting to have Manouso Manos here in Christchurch. I had been to his studio in San Francisco a few years ago, and it was fantastic to have him in town. As one of only two Advanced Senior level teachers globally his years of experience certainly made for an inspiring workshop.

A great sense of humour goes a long way, and the workshop was engaging on many levels. To be able to articulate complex detail with absolute clarity was incredibly helpful, and we all learnt so much. Many thanks to Manouso for his generosity in sharing his experiential knowledge with us. Christchurch has had a challenging time of it in the last few years, but is finally in recovery mode after those earthquakes.

It’s great to see Association events so well supported. The question was raised: “how does the Association support the Yoga community?” Great teachers nurture enthusiastic students, and continual learning is important for growth and development. Workshops provide a more in-depth opportunity to do this, and we look forward to the next one!

Updates to the NZ Teacher Training and Certification Manual

Following the All Assessors meeting in March changes have been made to the NZ Teacher Training Manual:
