With the season fast approaching, I thought it would be useful to run through some important information and to let you know about some upcoming events.

The fixtures this year will be frozen on Play-Cricket on 31st March. Please ensure that any changes are made by then as it will only be possible to make changes after that point with the agreement of both teams and the permission of the league. If you are looking for friendly fixtures please let me know and I can add you to the list further down. There are a number of touring sides coming over and they will be added to the list below soon.

On 14th April we will be checking that all non-pairs entries have at least 11 players listed in their squad on Play-Cricket as per the new league rules, which you can find via the link further down.

Please check the new player eligibility rules carefully. With full scorecards now required to be entered for all non-pairs matches, we will be checking results to ensure that ineligible players are not being used. There will tough penalties for those ignoring the rules but we are open to given special dispensation where appropriate. This must, however, be given in advance.

Team manager details should have been with us by yesterday. Please check that your club has sent these in as this information is very important to the league being run well.

Hopefully you will have all ordered your balls by now. We strongly recommend pink balls for all games but please remember they must be used for all evening hard ball games.

We are running a Play-Cricket Admin training course on Monday 25 March at Horsley & Send for 7.30 pm start. To take part please email league secretary Gill. This course will be very useful given some of the new details above.

The Surrey Association of Cricket Officials is running a range of education courses over the coming 2 months aimed at all levels of experience and if you have people you know are interested (or want to put the word out there) please pass on the information below.

Introductory Courses – Aimed at anyone looking to learn the basics of umpiring and ideal for parent helpers, older junior players wanting to assist with umpiring and anyone else wanting to find out more. Courses cost just £5 and we have sessions taking place at: Stage 1 – This course is designed to give you an overview of the basic Laws of the game and how to apply them and introduce the principles of field craft and match management. It will give you the tools to enable you to umpire matches at the basic recreational level where there are no independent umpires appointed. Stage 2 – This course is designed to build on Umpire Education Stage One, covering further Laws and exploring the concept of working as part of a team with a colleague and the scorers. It is intended to introduce you to the skills and knowledge required to be a member of a league panel.
