Message from Pastor Lora

October 16, 2020

I love hearing from all of you after a sermon. Getting messages and emails about Sunday’s sermons is one of the ways I feel connected to you all when we are apart, so thank you for all of your notes. I also know because of those notes that many of you really liked Padraig O Tuama’s words about prayer. Me too. If you don’t have a daily prayer habit, I’d invite you to join me in his Daily Prayer book.

It was beautiful to see candles added throughout the day on Thursday when we opened the sanctuary up for prayer. We will do that again from time to time so stay tuned.

This Sunday, we transition to the SEEK ANSWERS TO OUR QUESTIONS portion of our discipleship pathway (check your mail for a discipleship pathway magnet!!!), and this first Sunday focuses on “Join a Small Group.” Pastor Mike will be preaching! Join us at 10am on Facebook Live.

THEN – we are trying something new. Tune into Facebook Live on Sunday at 1:30pm for Confirmation Worship. We have waited six months to confirm our three youth and have decided to invite their families, mentors, and church council to be with them outside for this special day. We appreciate your prayers as we have our first in-person worship service. While we know it is limited and just this small group, it’s still a big deal for all of us. Please pray for these youth, our pastors and staff, families, mentors, and leaders who will be with us to welcome them into the church. What a witness of faith it is to see them say “yes” to our baptismal promises for themselves during such a hard year. God is doing amazing things.

I know there is COVID and election and cold weather is coming and things feel hard a lot. But you all have endured this for seven months. We’ve adapted something new every single week, and you’ve all been so patient and faithful in keeping with it. Thank you. Thank you for your grace and discipline to keep connecting with one another and God. Thank you for your generosity and the way you’ve taken time to go to our Give page and make sure you continue to support God’s mission financially at St. Paul’s.

“See” you Sunday,

Pastor Lora

Worship this Week

Worship this Week

Sunday, October 18

10:00am Livestream on Facebook

This week we focus on the “Seek answers to our questions” part of our mission statement, learning how we can grow in our faith by sharing our questions with others. Find a related daily scripture reading and reflection here on our website. We'll also begin worship with Kid's Time, so be sure they're tuned in for that!

Participate in the livestream on Facebook or watch later on St. Paul's YouTube channel. Here's a link to last week's service in case you missed it. Check out the online worship guide to find the bulletin and suggestions on how to feel more connected in worship while we're apart.

Presence Worship

Presence is a neurodiverse worship community. We welcome and celebrate the different ways in which we all interact with God, each other, and our environment.

Presence small group worship meets on Wednesday evenings at 7:30 p.m., currently on Zoom; contact Mike Marcus for the link. Advance notice of the discussion question for the week is available by request. Contact Pastor Mike Marcus for more information.

Share the Lord's Prayer

Would you like to lead the congregation in prayer? You can do it from home! Find instructions and submit your video at the link below. We can't wait to see and hear your prayer.

Join a Small Group

Being part of a small group working through questions about faith and life is an important part of spiritual growth. If you aren’t already part of one, this is your time! Check out all the possibilities on our website and sign up. Contact Pastor Sandra if you have questions.

There's still time to get in on the first session of Bible 101, which starts this Monday, October 19 at 7pm via Zoom. Led by Marilyn Gregory, this six-week study "...will not answer all your questions. But it will give you some tools for becoming a student of the Bible." Find out more and join us!

Harvest for Good

from Kurt Hookstra

Thank you gardeners for all you did this summer! We had a very productive year. We tried some new vegetables on purpose (carrots and cabbage) and tried some new vegetables on accident (pumpkin and squash). I also really appreciate all of you that were able to help with the sweet potato harvest and putting the garden to bed for the winter. I think we all learned that this large undertaking is so much easier with all of us working together. If there was ever a year that our food pantry partners needed us, this is was it! Thanks to Suzie Dutton for recording the year's harvest totals (in pounds):
  • apples-45
  • pears-11.5
  • pumpkins-16.4
  • garlic-11.9
  • carrots-19.96
  • cabbage-46.50
  • herbs-3.3
  • cucumbers-99.93
  • tomatoes-360.89
  • peppers-54.23
  • squash-43.76
  • sweet potatoes-116.8
...for a grand total of 830.17 pounds of produce donated to local food pantries.

I want to encourage everyone to continue to bring your kitchen scraps to the compost bins. See you in the spring!

thankful pumpkinThankful Pumpkins

"Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!" Psalm 107:1

In lieu of Trunk or Treat this year, we're doing a month of Thankful Pumpkins!

Join us after church on Sunday, November 1, 11am - 1pm, to pick up your pumpkin - drive through style! This month-long activity requires only a Sharpie, the pumpkin you pick up at St. Paul's, and a heart full of gratitude.

Each day, ask yourself and/or those in your family what they are thankful for and then write it down on the pumpkin. This simple task will be a visual reminder to center our lives towards God and be grateful for the gifts we've received. Thanks be to God!
