MESSAGE FROM PASTOR DAVID
Rev. David LivingstonJune 10, 2016
As you look through this week’s newsletter I hope that you’ll find at least one fun summer activity to be involved in. My personal favorite: the Comedy City show on June 25. You’ll have an absolute blast with a group that adjusts the comedy to the audience that is there. One week later on July 1 we’ll have a fun and educational experience with the Ramadan fast-breaking. This evening experience is a great opportunity to learn more about Muslim practices so that we can be good neighbors. Then on July 22 those of us who went on the Greece trip will share some of our stories at a church potluck.

Three very different experiences, at least one of which I’m sure would work well for you. See more information in this newsletter and in the weeks to come. And don’t forget to use the new Infellowship website to find groups to join. There are now 40 different St. Paul’s groups that you can explore there!

Adults  ** New Class Beginning this Sunday! **

9:30am | Back Bridge Classroom
"Third Grade Bible Lessons For and From Adults"
Calling all Adult Bible Newbies and Adult Bible Scholars! Please consider joining us beginning this Sunday, June 12, as Bob McCoy leads this six week look at the Bible. This will be both an introduction for adults new to the Bible, and a primer for adults considering becoming Sunday School Teachers from the perspective of the third grade Bible curriculum.

The idea is two-fold. First, to help adults learn or recall what every third grader should know about the Bible and to learn or recall what third grade Bible skills fit into the lives of adults. And second, to help adults thinking of teaching children's Sunday School Classes what Bible lessons taught in third grade are important and how to bring the power and joy found in these Bible lessons to children.

This class is open to all adults - we especially want adult Bible newbies in addition to Biblical scholars so that the class has a balanced composition. Please join us!

NEWS & EVENTS

Blood Drive this Sunday; Walk-ins Welcome

Community Blood Center logoOur joint Blood Drive with Shawnee Presbyterian takes place this Sunday, June 12, 8:30am-1pm at Shawnee Presbyterian Church, 6837 Nieman. You can literally save a life with your donation - the need is great during the summer when high schools aren't in session and people are on vacation. Adding to the urgency is that people who have traveled to areas including Mexico and parts of Central America, South America, the Caribbean Islands, and the South Pacific have a waiting period before donating.

Walk-ins are welcome, or schedule an appointment online today! >>

New Vocal Ensemble Forming

from Jeremy Watson, Director of Contemporary Music
Jeremy WatsonHello! I hope all of you are enjoying your first couple weeks of summer. I am writing to inform you about a new vocal ensemble I'm organizing to perform exclusively at the 8:15 worship service. I'd like to call this group First Light and schedule our first rehearsal for 11:15am-noon on Saturday, June 25th. Our first performance is slotted for July 10th, so we are about a month out. All talent levels are welcome and I'm going to do my best to select repertoire that both accentuates worship themes and is fun to learn and sing. If you have any comments/questions, feel free to contact me at stppnoman@yahoo.com or text me at 816-806-6104. I look forward to seeing you soon!

Imagine Reaching Milestones

Imagine logoAt just over 2/3 of the way through our 3-year Imagine capital campaign, we want to take a moment to celebrate the remarkable progress we've made so far and encourage you to imagine reaching our goals even sooner.

In addition to the building renovations we've completed, we have just reached the milestone of going below $640,000 in debt. We have been able to pay extra toward the principle balance of our debt each month, which means we end up paying less in interest over time. We anticipate that in a year, we'll begin a one-year capital campaign to completely wipe out our debt. To reach this goal of zero debt even sooner, we ask that those who are already participating consider making an accelerated gift, and for those who haven't had the opportunity to take part, there's no time like the present to begin!

Contribute via credit card or ACH:
Go to stpaulslenexa.org/contribute/ and click Online Giving. Enter your gift in the "Imagine Campaign" category on the donation page.

Contribute via check:
Write "Imagine Campaign" on the memo line and place in the offering plate or the collection box on the wall to the left of the office door.

Imagine the lives that will be touched and transformed through our gifts. Imagine being part of God's work in the world through this church. And know that with God's power working through us, God can do  much, much more than anything we can ask or imagine.

Is God Calling You to Serve Beyond St. Paul's?

Connecting Council imageFrom Disaster Response to planning Annual Conference or working with Pensions and Health Insurance (with many areas of ministries in-between), the Great Plains Conference needs people to serve. People who are feeling called can go beyond the local church and discover what can happen when over 1,000 churches and their pastors unite with a common mission to create great churches, with great leaders, great disciples, and a transformed world. Are you feeling the call? Check out the different areas to serve. You can nominate yourself, a person in your church, or even your pastor here. Visit the Great Plains website or contact TruDee Little at 316-684-0266 for more info.

Ramadan Fast-Breaking Dinner
Friday, July 1, 8pm reception & presentation, 8:45 dinner | St. Paul's
Ramadan is the time each year when Muslims neither eat nor drink from dawn to dusk in order to help them focus on prayer, charity, and self-reflection. After sunset they traditionally break their fast and share their meal with friends and neighbors. The Kansas City chapter of Dialogue Institute of the Southwest has offered St. Paul’s an opportunity to share this meaningful experience on Friday, July 1 with a Ramadan fast-breaking evening meal. We will be just one of many churches throughout the area to benefit from their generosity.

The evening will begin here at St. Paul's at 8pm with a reception, presentation about Ramadan, and the chance to visit with Muslim families. Then, after sunset, around 8:45pm, we will be able to try the delicious food brought by Institute members. This will be a great opportunity to meet and talk with members of another faith! Please plan to join us, and feel free to bring family members, including children, and friends. RSVP by June 27 on the bulletin tear-off or by emailing Pat Cooper at patricia.anne.cooper@gmail.com.
