Message from Pastor Lora

July 24, 2020
Thursday evenings have become one of the bright spots in my weeks lately. That is partly because of the Anti-Racism Group that I’m leading that night (shout out to that awesome group of people!), but it’s partly because one of our other small groups, The Seekers, meets out in the church parking lot on Thursday evenings.

I love ending my day at church and seeing those lawn chairs circled up, distanced, and in a nice shady spot as they connect and study together. Hearing the laughter of church folks together is such a gift!

Of course, it makes me miss you all too even more, and I find myself grieving at all that has been given up. COVID continues to be such a bummer, and we know that it still continues to be the right decision to not gather for worship in person. Your feedback overwhelmingly indicates a desire for a cautious approach to gathering together. Our re-entry team has been working purposefully to develop a plan that will ensure our safety when we do gather together for various-sized events.

Perhaps you are also missing physical presence with church folks. The loss so many of us are experiencing can truly be met with an opportunity for connection with small groups. Small groups connect us closer to God and each other. In the coming weeks, you’ll see invitations to consider being a part of a regular, ongoing small group at St. Paul’s. You’ll also see opportunities to participate in new groups forming in the fall. Perhaps you could be part of a new group that meets in the parking lot—just like The Seekers do on Thursday nights. We want to help people connect during this time of distancing, and we want to keep people safe.

If you’d like to gather a group of church folks together to sit and spend time together in the parking lot, simply fill out this form and Jackson can help get it scheduled. The Re-Entry Team wants to help foster a safe way for us to grow in our faith and would be happy to help you think through ways to be together.

This Sunday during the Love Seek Serve Moment you’ll have a chance to hear from The Seekers about what a small group has meant to them. I’m so excited for you to hear from them! Know that I am praying daily for each of you, your faith journey, and for what God might do through small groups at St. Paul’s.

“See” you Sunday,

Pastor Lora
The Seekers
The Seekers meet in the church parking lot at 6:30pm on Thursdays.

Upper Room Devotionals

The Upper Room is providing the July/August 2020 issue of The Upper Room magazine for download at no cost to their standing order partners and subscribers. As a constituent of St. Paul's, you may download the issue at this link.
Since we have been at home and distanced, you all have been giving generously to help those who need it. Your generosity has recently touched each of the vital ministries listed above, all of whom are grateful for your giving. “Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the Lord, and the Lord will repay them for their deed.” – Proverbs 19:17

Sing with Us!

We would love for you to participate in our virtual choir, forming now! Check out the video and contact Jackson to get started.

Faith and Democracy

As United Methodists we “hold governments responsible for the protection of the rights of the people to free and fair elections” believing that “the form and the leaders of all governments should be determined by exercise of the right to vote guaranteed to all adult citizens.” (2016 Book of Discipline, ¶164A) With that in mind, please note these dates for upcoming opportunities to put faith in action.
