Welcome to our second newsletter of the season! This edition includes the first version of the 2015/2016 patrol roster, a catch up on recent news and junior surf, as well as upcoming dates and events.
Thanks to those who have paid their 2015/2016 subs. These are now overdue and need to be paid as soon as possible. Please note you cannot compete until you are a paid active member. Please contact Georgia if you have any questions.
Surf Life Saving New Zealand Awards of Excellence
"State Insurance Instructor of the Year was presented to Nick Mulcahy from Titahi Bay SLSC. Nick has worked with every patrol team at Titahi Bay to upskill members and improve the delivery of lifeguarding services. He is Chief Instructor, Patrol Captain and Patrol Coordinator, responsible for surf lifeguarding instruction, patrolling and development at Titahi Bay. His positive influence is evident through the club's increased patrol hours" - Surf Life Saving New Zealand (2015 Awards of Excellence winners announced).
Huge congratulations to Nick on this award - very well deserved!
Congratulations also to the three long-standing Titahi Bay clubbies who were awarded their 50 Year Badges at the ceremony - Roddy Freeman, Ewan Lang and Brian Grace.
A huge thank you to those who supported the recent Boaties fundraiser, it was great to see so many people there enjoying themselves. We managed to raise $4500.00 for the club which is a massive effort!
Huge thanks to Karl and Aida for their contributions and continued support of the club. Massive shout out to our two chefs Chris White and Ken Middleton who worked tirelessly for 2 days straight and, last but not least, the Boaties for organising it with our resident party planner Jenna.
Click the link below to view the video that was put together for the evening but due to a technical problem was not able to be played as planned, enjoy!
Surf Lifeguard Award Exam
Congratulations to our newest surf lifeguards who passed their exam last weekend!
It is great to see so many parents of our junior members sitting the exam - to any other parents who are interested in becoming a lifeguard, remember that there is also the option to work towards your Patrol Support Award. Looking forward to seeing our newest guards on patrol this season!
Junior Surf Zone
Nippers has started with a bang and we have two fun and successful sessions under our belts! It is great to see so many new faces as well as lots of returning nippers and families!
A huge thank you to all of the parents who have been helping out our instructors by getting into the water and lending a hand during the sessions - we encourage as many as you as possible to do the same. Health and Safety require us to have a certain ratio of adults to nippers otherwise we simply can't get in the water.
Our first nipper carnival is next weekend at Worser Bay. If you wish to register your children please contact Carl by Wednesday. You need to have a Titahi Bay competition cap (please note, this is not the coloured cap worn on Sundays). These will be available for purchase after Nippers on Sunday or you can contact Suzette for more information about the club uniform.
If anyone has any photos from our Sunday trainings please feel free to send them through to us. We would love to see them and use them on our Facebook pages and website.
This season we will be refreshing our Surf Lifeguard Award qualification as part of a Mass Refresher at Lyall Bay on Saturday 21 November at 10:00 am. This will include a theory test, run swim run, tube rescue, CPR, and first aid. Please ensure you take your swimming gear, high visibility vest, and a pen. If you cannot make this, there will be another opportunity later in the season.
Members wishing to compete 2015/16 season need to get refreshed.
Whitehorse Carnival at Titahi Bay SLSC
This Sunday Titahi Bay will host the first Capital Coast Whitehorse event. The carnival will start at 9am and will include Boat, Board, Ski, Canoe, 2km Run and Ironman races. It would be awesome to get as many of those not racing down to help out. Please contact Tim Marsden if you are available (0274757332).
The patrol season starts at Titahi Bay on the 28th November and this year we have six patrol teams. Please click the link below to view the 2015/2016 patrol roster on our website.
All patrolling members will be sent a link via email to sign in to the new Surf Life Saving New Zealand Member Portal. This allows members to view their patrol schedule online and register their attendance, as well as view their awards.
Remember it is your responsibility to organise cover for your patrol if you cannot make it. Please contact Nick if you have any problems regarding patrols.
Good luck to TBSLSC member Steven Kent who is competing at the upcoming European Cup competitions - the German Cup and the Orange Cup!
In the Spotlight: Carl Jones
Carl is an active patrol captain and lifeguard, Junior Surf committee member and coordinator and lifeguard award instructor. Carl recently completed his crewmans award and is working towards his IRB drivers. This season we may even see him compete!
