I wanted to tell you a bit about how I snagged the exciting opportunity to interview the one and only Ricky Tims! If you've been following along you'll know that I am a social media junkie so I first saw a note on Twitter from @BerninaCanada that Ricky Tims was about to do a Canada Wide Tour! The thoughts burst out of my mind in this order...
1. Where in Canada?
2. How can I get tickets?
3. Will it be sold out?
4. OMG - will he give me an interview?
It was less than a month before the event, so I thought it would be sold out for sure, and I could only hope there was a show near me in BC. I was in luck on both accounts. I secured my tickets, phoned my Aunt who lives near Burnaby where the event would take place and booked my calendar for the 5 hour drive to stay with her.
Now the challenge was on! How to land an interview? Well, I love Ricky and Alex and subscribe to The Quilt Show, so the history on them was a no brainer, but I needed to research the questions. I read everything I could find online for 3 days and compiled a list of the best questions that no one had ever asked and sent off the email with my fingers crossed.
It all happened so fast - They said yes! I left a day early and met him for lunch and an interview at the restaurant in his hotel. The most memorable moment was when he said these words...
"When Cyndi mentioned that there was a Canadian Radio Show wanting to do an interview, I rolled my eyes and thought, I just want my day to relax, but then I read the questions and I was so excited to meet you!"
For a podcaster type gal with an agenda to get out great content to her listeners, this was a huge compliment and it turned out to be one of the greatest experiences of my quilting career.
So there you have it - and the exciting cherry on top? Ricky wrote a blog post about the Canadian Quilt Talk podcast last week and we had a spike of 1000 listeners in just one day.
